We knew that, didn't we?
What, that my camera gave up the game? Did you have anything to do with it? Did you? Is this your doing? Did you do this thing? Now tell the truth, and remember: a small kitten dies every time you lie...

No, it wasn't me, and perhaps you forget my dislike of kittens?

Nice. Very Nice. So nice, in fact, I have just ordered one (M8.2). It had better not suck.

You rotten filthy bastard, that's *MY* unobtainable dream and you just ordered it up like that :snap: ;) Well I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through you, I expect some pictures in the codeproject flickr group[^].

I remember you always want to turn them into sitting. Don't really know why. :)

... is coupled with malingering shoddiness. And it's beginning to PMO a treat. For example, this morning my Canon EOS 400D decided enough was enough and packed up completely. After about half an hour of tech support, the conclusion was the thing is forked and needs to be repaired. But not under warranty, oh no, that ran out 3 months ago :| Now compare that to my Canon AE-1, which I bought second hand in 1984. After 25 years it still works perfectly, has never needed any sort of repair and still produces stunning results. I have half a mind just to stick the EOS in the bin and revert to film.

Everyone wants something to blame, from windows, to car make, to electronics.... and sometimes they are correct, but it is usually harder to tell than one account. My wife has her Nikon she bought before knowing me, I've owned two olympus cameras and given each away, My Nikon D70 has a line dead on the sensor, but then it has survived the heat of the southwest, combined with falls in Carlsbad Caverns, and a dip in the swamps of Louisiana. My new Nikon I did get the extended warranty for that reason. My fault, their fault, the gator that's eying me for a morsel's fault... I or my heirs can get it fixed. I know, extended warranties are a waste... until they are needed. It's a gamble. But then either choice is a gamble, everyone wins some, and everyone looses some.... :-D (I wonder how I can get this traded up for a D90 now... hmmmm)

We do Leica good pun, what?
Ouch! The pun is simultaneously the epitome, and the nadir of humour... the ultimate paradox.

You just coughed up near $6,000 on a camera? I'm impressed (and a wee bit jealous) :)

There's no need to go hypo about it!

 Some of us do actually remember developing real film. In a darkroom. With red safelights. I got my introduction in the darkroom I built in my bedroom closet. Mom was used to odd scents arising from my room, as she'd made the mistake of getting me a chemistry set beforehand (back when that meant something); odd smells were nothing new at our house. "Hypo" these days, sadly, refers too often to something with a sharp point. In fact, the city of Needles, CA, was named such because nobody knew how to spell, "Hypodermic." That's a damned shame - kids today are missing out on so much because of the Nanny society we've built trying to ensure a risk-free existence. There is no such thing, and no amaount of legislation will change that fact; it will only make it more expensive.

And some of us are actually senior citizens, who still use their 'real film' cameras. :) Unfortunately not so much nowadays, as I have difficulty getting out. I too used to dabble in the home darkroom arts. Don't have the space anymore. :(

That is a very negative attitude. :)

The issue is the cost of film development - about £12 ($18?) per 36 exposures last time I looked and likely to rise as more people go digital. It doesn't take more than a dozen reels before the cost makes a flaky digital camera look like a good alternative.

That is painfully true. Being on a fixed income means that should my existing equipment either fail, or become prohibitively expensive, I will probably be reduced to whatever my phone provides.
