Good UML diagramming tools?
-
Anyone know any _good_ UML diagramming tools? Visio is a joke when it comes to UML. Altova UModel is decent, but not optimal when it comes to sequence diagrams. The best I've found so far is some shareware app "TraceModeler" which is awesome for sequence diagrams. But it does not support any other diagram type at all. So, anyone know of any tool that is as good as tracemodeler but that can handle other diagram types too? (It should be intelligent enough to understand how each diagram type works, and not just treat everything as free floating shapes on a paper) //Roger
I use paper and my head for architecture planning. I don't find UML tools a help, they slow me down too much.

Paper and a pen is how I solve the most complex design problems however most other design issues are solved usually by delaying working on the particular area and just thinking about it. The solution can come to me at any time however, when I am driving my car, at 3:00 AM or when I am in the shower.

StarUML, probably the best one I've used so far.

We use ARTiSAN Studio[^]. That's quite pricy, apart from the relatively new Studio Uno[^] product, which has a free single user license. It has good support for both UML 2.0 and SysML.
Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p

I don't want to know what he does in the shower, thank you very much.

I'd second that. I think Doug turned me onto to that a few years ago. Plus should you ever want to see how they built it the source is available on SourceForge.

Don't worry about the heavy shelling! 6 * 1.0 votes :). As you can see, this isn't a programming question. We talk a lot of tools in lounge. So it's okay ;)

Not usually, but sometimes I do jump out get dried off and put a robe on so I can jot down the details of the design...
