Well, it's April 1 here in Australia (you others will get your turn shortly), and I have to say that the pranks that I have seen so far have been a little lacklustre... The prank by MMM (the radio station I listen to here in Brisbane) was an Oil spill on the City Reach of the Brisbane River (topical after the large oil spill in Moreton Bay a few weeks back), they had people from the City Reach Action Plan and the Federal Office Of Liquid Spills on the phone, and invited listeners to attend to help the clean up effort... The spill was a Midnight Oil spill (Midnight Oil is a band from the 80's and 90's - its lead singer is now a Federal politician - sellout... lol), and people who turned up were rewarded with a CD... Lame! As soon as they started talking about it I was immediately thinking "April Fool's". On the Today show (morning entertainment/news) they had a couple of things - one was an auction to buy the naming rights to a shrimp, the other was a new road safety campaign called "slow down and stare", which had bikini clad girls waving "Slow Down" signs outside schools... The poor girl they had on first must have been freezing, as it was raining where she was... Oh well, she got her 15 mins of fame!! So has anyone seen any good pranks THIS YEAR?

A few network guys at work were talking about the classic Insert Coin prank with hp printers. Sadly, I doubt they are actually going to go through with it. Some of the versions are great.

My HDD is dying. I'm not sure if it's trying to pull prank on me or it's for real, but I'm going to buy new one just in case.

I did like the Virgin Blue kid's plane parties ad in the paper, and the "open letter" telling parents that they could drop their kids off at their local MP's office for free child-minding... Both were shown on the Today show, but I haven't seen them in hardcopy yet...

We did something a bit like that when we had a VAX/VMS network - we sent out spurious messages, along the lines of 'Error: keyboard overheating' and 'Warning: oval mouse rollers detected'. And we got the VAX support guys onside, so they played along with it :-) Ah - the good old days!

Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p

One I heard on the radio today was an offer for half price fuel from certain participating stations the only thing the listeners ahd to do was ring up the radio show and say who they where and where they are from to find out where the offer is near to them. When they rang up they spoke to a memeber of the show who asked what day it was and I was suprised at how many people said "Wednesday" and had no idea for about a minute or so then the line would just go dead. I'm just glad I walk to work.

Some people are like slinky's... They're not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs

Oh! Thanks for the reminder! *evil grin* Now I have one "insert coin" and one "too much paper". I tried "too much toner" before, but I'm afraid they pitched at least one cartridge because of that and don't want to have that occur again... >_<

We played this once on the schools network a few years ago. One poor secretary wasted fifteen minutes with our help desk because her black and white printer was displaying "Warning, Cyan toner low". Thankfully she didn't get the message about the internal fire. We had a textfile of about 30 errors, each printer got one at random.
