Hello from Windows 7

Just completed the installation of Win 7 beta on my office laptop (my employer encourages "living on the edge" when it comes to technology) and although I never considered Vista to be slow before, now I am having second thoughts - Win 7 is so snappy that it is not even funny.
1 question, does IronScheme run on it? And a general question to all, has anyone tried IronScheme on 64-bit?

But that is cool then - that Win7 actually improves when the number of cores increase. I am planning to get a quad-core but probably with 12 GB ram. Not buying a Mac since my budget is only 2000 bucks.

Lucky you. I deleted my copy of the ISO image a little while ago, and I'm beginning to regret not burning it to a spare DVD or CD. When it comes out, I'm going to see if I can get it - Vista's good, but Windows 7 looks and feels better. I'll also have an excuse to format the entire hard drive and start clean, with no manufacturer recovery partitions to clutter up my disk. The only challenge will be seeing if Windows 7's Homegroups will interact with the Vista set-up on the laptop

But that is cool then - that Win7 actually improves when the number of cores increase. I am planning to get a quad-core but probably with 12 GB ram. Not buying a Mac since my budget is only 2000 bucks.

Installed all my usual stuff including VS2008 and it still runs quicker than Vista on a far better machine. The only thing that's slow is IE8 - but that's no suprise. I don't know what they've done but they should do more of it!

I've got a crappy old desktop at home running Weven - 2GHz processor 1GB RAM. Installed all my usual stuff including VS2008 and it still runs quicker than Vista on a far better machine. The only thing that's slow is IE8 - but that's no suprise. I don't know what they've done but they should do more of it!

What about VS 2008? It runs slow on my dual core machine with 3 GB RAM. I'd be surprised if you say that it runs fast on your 1 GB museum piece.

I just upgraded from Vista 32-bit, and kept all the installed applications. Again this is my "office" machine: a Dell Latitude D830 with 2Gb RAM and 2 cores - nothing special.

If you have some external storage available, just use Windows Easy Transfer. It is really easy :)

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkA bit 'clunky' to start up, but once it's loaded it pretty fast and responsive. It's just a single core jobby too. Trying to work it out. I think I built it about 6 maybe 7 years ago when 2GHz was about the fastest you could get.

A bit 'clunky' to start up, but once it's loaded it pretty fast and responsive. It's just a single core jobby too. Trying to work it out. I think I built it about 6 maybe 7 years ago when 2GHz was about the fastest you could get.

Lucky you. I work on a solution with a couple of dozen projects and it crashes every 15-20 minutes, and I have to restart it :-(
