Hi, I really need you help guys. Now i am experiencing something wierd. I just can not concentrate on work. When I come to office early morning. first thing i do is open my mail, news websites, some movie news some blogs and it eats almost one and half hour. then hardly i do few things then again come the lunch time after lunch i feel sleepy then after 3pm i slowly able to concentrate but then three hours are left .. then i repent i uncessarily wasted so much time. I dont feel that enthusiasm of learning and grasping things and be full of information. Have I grown old? or do I need some excercise? I go home in the evening them my thoughts are just into my work there too i change the mood after one and half hour or soo then again in the morning after I come to office i am unable to switch my mood. Guys just dont feel like switching my mood and work. Am I depressed? Please give me some tips . I want to regain that attitude again. thanks, kMeena.

When I get like that I massage some code. Fix case conventions, indentation, order of conditions etc. Even re-grouping related lines with different whitespace i.e. blank lines! Eventually an idea for a meaningful refactoring or revision takes place, and once that happens, I'm in the groove again. It takes some stopping me then.

You sound like you need to regain some energy and figure out how to unwind. Try to make your diet more balanced and get a hobby which doesn't involve writing computer programs, like drawing or photography. Finally, get plenty of sleep; I find that a good night's rest keeps me awake until triple business studies!

It's common. I and I can bet almost everyone here have been through these cycles many times not just for work. The only solution is to apply yourself to work. One strategy is to make a list of several small tasks and complete them one by one. When you check out a work as complete your mind will be automatically be tuned to do more work. Eventually, I think it is you and only you who have to figure out how to solve this issue.

Wouldn't last long enough. Massive high followed by colossal energy dip. I've never touched the stuff, but thanks to a healthy diet (read: high metabolism) I can quite easily code from when I get in at 3 o'clock, until about 9 o'clock at night with break for a meal OT: 400th post! Not long now until I can help with the article submissions

Really? I drink a lot of coke daily - and sometimes red bull too. Recently I've replaced this with gatorade. I don't really experience any energy dips. Though I keep replenishing myself so perhaps that helps.

You have no discipline. You lack maturity. You're not committed. You don't have any drive. You don't have any determination. You don't have what it takes to productively participate in society. Should I go on?

For me I keep myself on track by doing a few simple things. 1) Exercise. 2) I have a task list for the next working day before I end the current working day. 3) I don't open my email or surf the web until I have done at least one thing on my task list. 4) I read for pleasure. This is escapism at it's best for me. 5) I limit how much TV I watch. I try to consume less than four hours a week. 6) I try to stay away from the caffeine after 2 pm. 7) And this is most important to me....I actively set annual, monthly and, weekly goals.

Is there anything that is bothering you. You may want to take some quit time to reflect as to what might be consuming many of your brain CPU cycles. I get what you described if I am stressed about something. Most of the time, I may have something stuck in my head and subconsciously I can not stop thinking about it. The solution I apply to such situation is that I take 15-30 break, sit down figure out what is in my back of head and make a plan to tackle and write it down. Once I put it in paper, my mind feels at ease.

Consumption of caffeine does not eliminate the need for sleep: it only temporarily reduces the sensation of being tired

From what I've worked out and heard, it goes from a stimulant back to normal levels or tiredness; but these levels appear much lower after such a large energy stimulus, thus the feeling of an energy dip. Besides, on the same page, there's some other effects, which don't seem to do any good over a long period of time

Yeah, I know it's not great for the body. Hence the move to gatorade recently. Though I've heard that gatorade is not all that good for you either.

Get an interest outside computing. With moving around over the years I've found that difficult but doing a lot better. Exercise also helps emotionally as well as physically when you get into a rut. Elaine :rose:

You're describing my last five years. Figure out your retirement date and keep your eye on that. In the meantime, just force yourself to write code. It's not fun, but it's what I know.

Try the sugar free one. You don't get the come-down insulin spike that causes the energy dip.

This is what I do. I call it pushing code around on the plate until I get my appetite.

You have no discipline. You lack maturity. You're not committed. You don't have any drive. You don't have any determination. You don't have what it takes to productively participate in society. Should I go on?
