http://www.thinkpads.com/2009/04/02/lenovo-discontinues-automatic-system-update/comment-page-1/[^] Of course I can update my T61P manually, but System Update was so useful. My impression is, that Lenovo is losing an important USP. Have a nice day, Phil

I won’t not use no double negatives.

I could see why. The automatic update sometimes causes a problem for some users.

I was this company's fan when it had some other name not resembling this one. lol :) Though I don't own one currently, my friends say there's a lot of difference in quality after it become "lenovo" may be those guys are just racists, I'm not sure but the legendary ThinkPad really rocked! I once had a ThinkPad-PIII with 14" screen. It was just stunning.

I could be an MVP in a week if I wanted to! ....................................................................................Well,I’m just not smart enough

Once the US Government found out they had back door logins via the BIOS they have been banned from any sensitive application.

Hmmmm, that may explain why Lenovo desktops have disappeared from my workplace.

Do you have any citations for this? A quick google didn't turn up anything other than lists of generic recovery passwords that every bios maker includes by default for when pulling the battery is a pita.

I love my t61p more than any laptop i've ever owned. While this sucks, I won't stop using this machine. side note to that. now that they don't make normal sized screen laptops (i HATE widescreen laptops), I'll probably be using this one for a very long time in the future.

I love mine too! my first laptop! I use it as my desktop replacement. This news is however meh to me as the first thing I did after getting mine was doing a clean windows install.

I worked for a company that supplied some of the management software for ibm and these laptops. Our entire gov contract was pulled when ibm sold thinkpad to lenovo and the existing orders were cancelled. We were told at the time that the government wasn't going to be ordering laptops created/designed/made by in that part of the world.

if you have a CAC card, you can access www.jtfgno.mil where the DoD directive is.

I don't, and fulfilling my curiosity isn't worth calling in a favor from someone who does. *shrug*

I can't find somewhere else to point you sorry. But In essence as the other poster noted where they are made was a factor but not the one that caused them to swoop in one day and take them away or force contractors to remove them from the facility.

hmmmm I don't expect you to be able to confirm or deny, but it makes me wonder if it was related to the rumors I saw on the net about the results of a TS audit of the circuits in physical chips that allegedly discovered all sorts of interesting stuff being added.
