Is it just me, or is there something about that woman in the picture...? Just me? Damn.

I had a co worker once use the excuse that she could not come in because she was running a fever of 107 degrees. I asked if she was calling from the morgue. Our team got a good laugh out of that, but then she was known for exaggeration. Needless to say, she is no longer employed by our company.

How about, "I no longer care about this job". I almost used that one once... almost.

I try not to be late - but when I am - I just tell it like it is: I killed my battery in my car - or the cold did - I'm here now, and I have a new battery. I overslept - but I was coding until 4am - the project is done. I overslept - just did - no excuse... I overslept. Um... Yeah - over slept. Typically - if you're on time as a rule - being late is not usually a deal breaker and honesty goes a long way in my opinion... though consistantly honest late people do get fired as they should. :)

As a developer, I haven't had to worry about what time I get in since about 1992. As long as I make the meetings and get my work done, nobody really cares.

"When I was a child, I had a fever... My hands felt just like two balloons" -Pink Floyd Seriously though, when I was a kid I had a fever of 105.. of course I was hallucinating a great deal and had my head placed in a tub of ice as I was rushed to the ER. Mind you, I couldn't have called into work without talking about the giant ants carrying pennies everywhere, but I wasn't dead :)

As a computer savvy user, I set my IM client to fire up and log on precisely at the time I'm supposed to be at work! So, even if I'm a little late, it looks like I was on time! No excuses needed!

Children are able to sustain temperatures of 105. After reaching adulthood it is almost impossible to go over 103 without going into a coma. Not impossible but beyond uncommon. It isnt a linear progression with regards to body temp and severity. 99 degrees is a low grade temp, 101 is moderate, 102 becomes severe. 107 is death simply because in order to reach that temp on a thermometer your body has to literally burn up your internal organs. I only know all of this because my wife is in the medical field and when I relayed the story to her she cracked up laughing and proceeded to explain it all to me. I just thought 107 was high and seemed unreasonable, she explained it was virtually impossible.

I think that is actually in my job description :) Things around my office work much the same way. My boss looks at our yearly productivity and determines how well we have done. He has never watched the clock or worried about the times we come and go. We are probably much more productive because of it too.

Not one of those but... I was late once because I got stuck behind a house that was moving at only 10 miles per hour! and there was no room to pass it on the single lane highway for ..... 30 minutes...
