Jeeze, this copying gigabytes of files from one machine to another takes freakin' forever... I've ripped about a hundred of our movies and I've only used up about 500gb of the 930 available on the first of two drives.

Gigabit plus FTP is a good solution. I've got 300-400Mbit/sec with a tail wind.

Visit http://www.notreadytogiveup.com/[^] and do something special today.

Hi John, A friend of mine is a rabid user of DirectoryOpus and claims it will accellerate file moves between drives greatly. Until I see a technical review and some stats, I'll take this with a grain of salt, but perhaps there is something out there that can move files faster on the software level ? Just a hypothesis, maybe a very weak one : makes more sense to assume this is a network hardware bound speed-limit says Occam's trusty razor. best, Bill

"Many : not conversant with mathematical studies, imagine that because it [the Analytical Engine] is to give results in numerical notation, its processes must consequently be arithmetical, numerical, rather than algebraical and analytical. This is an error. The engine can arrange and combine numerical quantities as if they were letters or any other general symbols; and it fact it might bring out its results in algebraical notation, were provisions made accordingly." You don't have one yet? Even I have one, but I have only one system that can take advantage of it.

Since you mentioned jumbo frames - can you recommend a gigabit switch that supports them? Or was that just a general recommendation? I'm wondering since I'm alos plannign to get one sometime soon, so any input is appreciated...

              "Impossible" is just an opinion.

I use a DGS-2208 which supports Jumbo frames & has 144KB of buffer memory. The large bufferpool is nice because the Ziova Z500 media player I use only has a 100MBit connection. Buffering between my fileserver gig-port & the Z500 has proved to be a "good thing". I found cheapy gig-switches drop packets -- not desirable when watching a movie. -- Ian

I'm waiting for the technology to stabilize. :)

Welcome to 4 years ago. My P4P800 motherboard (that's P4) had built in Gigabit LAN.
