Is 147 good, bad or average...

Regardless of what some people think about such tests, they are a valid measure of one's ability to capture and analyze information and relationships. Like most such tools, some are better at it than others, and many are not much better than children's toys. By definition, 100 represents an average person. Beyond that, it's depends on who you ask. Traditionally there are several levels of varying degrees of brilliance and dullness, as originally defined by Terman - to wit What IQ Scores Mean[^]. An IQ of 140 means you're qualified to join Mensa, and clearly indicates a gifted person. But it's unlikely that you'll find life less confusing than someone with a mere 130 IQ. Bear in mind, too, that there are some people who are naturally gifted at scoring well on tests, and others who suffer brain-freeze at the sight of a little bubble that needs blackening. I'm certain that can skew the results, whether psychologists are willing to admit it or not.

Last time I took an IQ test (I was forced to I tell ye!) I scored 155. If I took a common sense test I would probably score -155.

Given the fact that you have kids, and about what I learned about them from your posts, there are some indicators for one of your kids being the person tested. I have been told that, especially for kids, the results can vary by 20 or 30 points, just based on factors that will "even out" over the years. Just be careful what you do with the info.
