Summer
-
It's officially summer, for me anyway. After an hour of cleaning the yard (trimming bushes and palms, pulling weeds from the lawn and out of the rocks, sweeping rocks off the sidewalk), I get to jump in the pool to cool off. However, I have to find some shade to keep my bald pate from getting to be the color of the bougainvillea. But the reality is that here (Phoenix) we get 9 months of summer and 3 months of Hades.

It could be worse; we could be in Australia. :-D

Doesn't that just put our Hades time around Christmas instead of 4th of July? I have a couple of nephews that lived there for a while, but I never really asked what the weather was like. I just always assumed it was too hot for me, but that was before I moved here.

Great - I am there next week ( for a sales conference ) and I packed no shorts, only jeans.

I guess parts of Australia are dry and hot, inland.

Jeans are good for covering pasty-white legs and protecting them from cactus parts blown by high winds.

I was in a blizzard last week, but that was at 7,200 feet in Utah.

Wimp. I lived in Maracaibo for over 11 years. The lowest temperature I ever saw was 19C at dawn in winter. 40C is normal. There they have 9 months of hell and 3 months of summer, but no one makes a big deal about it.

I'll accept that title if it would allow me to move back to the Puget Sound area. Summertime highs rarely hit 80F and anything above 72 degrees was when you started shucking most of your clothes. :) My wife tells friends that she much prefers Phoenix over Houston, where toweling off after a shower was an exercise in futility; you're soaked with sweat before you got your clothes on. :suss:

But there's no charge for the sauna here in Houston. And why bother with clothes? We run around in shorts and (maybe) a T-shirt, except for eating out or going to the store, etc.

They have things here called "Misters" that create a fine mist of water in the air. The evaporation of the mist cools the air about 20F. You can even by small ones that you attach to your hat. Anyway, it shouldn't be too hot, only about 100F (38C).
