Just found DropBox[^] and it looks like a handy tool - automatic directory sync across machines, online backup, keeps track of revisions, public file sharing, and free for up to 2GB of space. Thought it might be handy to others (and no, I've no link to the writers or company).

Sexy. How secure is it ?

Christian Graus Driven to the arms of OSX by Vista. "I am new to programming world. I have been learning c# for about past four weeks. I am quite acquainted with the fundamentals of c#. Now I have to work on a project which converts given flat files to XML using the XML serialization method" - SK64 ( but the forums have stuff like this posted every day )

There's a bit about security in this [^]interview with the founder.

          Dropbox site says:

Your files are always safe. All data is transferred over SSL and encrypted with AES-256 before storage.

          here[^]

Hi Steve, I've been using the free 2 gig account for over two months now and had no problems. "DropBox" appears in your file system as "yet another folder," and within that there is a Public folder (all the behind the scenes ftp or whatever are hidden away) : you just drag and drop. Something is in your Public Folder : right-click and you can get a url to send to your friends. You can publish an entire folder, but in order to access it a third party has to sign-up (but not register) for DropBox : this seems a bit weird. They have nice system-tray app that lets you context-click and open your local folder or your web account. The only real lack, in my opinion, is some kind of progress indicator to let you know when a file you have put in your DropBox is finished uploading. To my knowledge their paid services, as well as the free, lack this indicator. But who can complain when it's for free and works very well ? best, Bill

"Many : not conversant with mathematical studies, imagine that because it [the Analytical Engine] is to give results in numerical notation, its processes must consequently be arithmetical, numerical, rather than algebraical and analytical. This is an error. The engine can arrange and combine numerical quantities as if they were letters or any other general symbols; and it fact it might bring out its results in algebraical notation, were provisions made accordingly." Ada, Countess Lovelace, 1844
