Not I. Only 6 miles, but where i work is 1000' higher than the river I have to cross on the way. Looking at google's map it looks like I'd have almost a mile at a 10% average grade. :doh: Also, as penance for my ability to not wear a coat in the dead of winter, I break out in a sweat if exercise looks at me cross eyed; even on a cool morning I'd need a shower by the time I arrived. X|

That's a given for me; my body's best athletic event is sweating :sigh:. Fortunately, we have a locker room with showers here at work. I'll end up showering three times today: once on arrival at work, once at lunch (I ran 7.5 miles), and then once after I get home tonight. Normally I don't run on days I bike to work, but I missed Wednesday and yesterday, so I'm making up for lost time.

I walk to work frequently about 2 miles...Up hill...both ways (literally...I live and work on a hill with a valley in between).

i'm pretty wary of riding in traffic. i've been hit, riding, before, and it's much less fun than you might expect. when i got down off the windshield and picked my bike up from the back of the car, the front and rear axles were touching. wear a helmet!

I have a co-worker who bikes that distance (sometimes). Actually he bikes from the same city where Doug lives and he does it in 1 hr 10 mins. But he has been biking a long time.

It sounds like you were lucky. One of the regular bike commuters here where I work was hit about ten years ago. He spent several weeks in the hospital, and has the most amazing scar running around the side of his head. I'm religious about wearing a helmet. I spilled the bike two years ago, and was knocked out for a few seconds. I probably would have had a skull fracture without the helmet.

I'd love to bike to work, unfortunately so may obstacles in a way. 1. My work is 25 miles one way. It takes me 40 minutes driving and will take forever biking. 2. I have considered half-drive, half-bike, but no place to put the car and change commuting. 3. The biking will be done on narrow state highway which does not have enough shoulder path. To dangerous to bike. 4. I am considering taking a bike to work and biking during lunch time. Does this considers as "bike to Lunch Day" :^) :doh: :sigh:

That's one thing I really wish we had more of here in Atlanta, is better public transportation. This city really has far too many cars on the road. I've looked into riding the bus, but I would still have to drive to pick-up area, the closest one to my house is about 10 miles (almost half my trip). Then I would spend 2 hours on the bus, but only to go to a central station, where I'd have to catch a connection, back to my office. Just doesn't make sense ... Van pools, not available in my area, and my schedule's too inconsistent for it to be practical in my world anyway. What I need is a jet pack ... a hydrogen fueled jet pack ... :-D
