Hubble Telescope

Does anyone know if or when we will be able to see new images from the Hubble Telescope? They finished fixing it and it's supposedly back in service, but no one mentions when we can see its new tech in images. Isn't that what this is all about? Why isn't ANYONE reporting about what it is actually doing NOW?

It's having a rest after its thorough servicing. Give it a chance!

I suppose the older you get the more rest you need!

Well first, you need to go to the correct website there mister. Try this: http://hubblesite.org/servicing_mission_4/[^] Also - you could/should have posted this in the Lounge, it's completely kid sister safe.

Unless they're taking PR images instead of immediately returning it to scientific work, you'll probably have to wait a while. IIRC the researchers who make the observations have an exclusivity period to write their papers before the data is put in the public domain.

Bad Astronomy |VCF|wxWidgets|WTLThank You! The NASA site is horrible and woefully out of date, http://hubble.nasa.gov/[^] The key text on the hubble.org site is as follows; "Ground controllers will spend the next several weeks testing and calibrating Hubble's instruments before observations resume. " There are no news articles that mention that short of this (fan) site. It just seemed odd to me that there was not mention of when we would see it back in action or anything regarding what was next on its schedule.

hubblesite.org is run by the space telescope institute[^] which is run for nasa by the main hubble partner universities. It's not nasa's site, but "fan site" isn't a accurate characterization either.

Cool! I didn't mean to be disparative in any way. Sometimes Fan sites are more up-to-date and informative than the official ones. I am thankful that the institute put up a site that is more responsive to the public's need/desire for information. Somehow the NASA latest news of the mission is more anger provoking than informative; "Space shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to roll out to Launch Pad 39A at NASAKennedy Space Center in Florida on Tuesday, March 31, as preparations for the STS-125 mission move forward." Thanks for providing that info. I will bookmark the .org site and watch that one for more details.
