I may disagree with the man quite often, but I just have to admire his political skills.

which is to say, he is filled to the brim with bullshit. I watched the same speech and lost count of the number of times he referenced the Constituition, would just dandy if he actually followed it. I'm particularily interested to see where that particular document gives him the authority to take an automobile company from share holders and bond holders and hand it over to a union. Cheney's speech that followed was far, far better.

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

I don't think automobile companies existed when that particular document was written.

you notice absolutely zip. The Magic Negro has defined the techniques as torture, Cheney defined it as enhanced interrogation techniques, that saved lives. do pay attention.

Cheney? no I don't. he has nothing to lose.

yes, as misguided as it was there is now a Democracy where there had been a tyrant.

Just because Cheney calls it so doesn't make it so. You can call it maple syrup that doesn't mean you an put it on pancakes.

It's funny, not really, how we turn allies into enemies and then into allies after we make war with them. Tyrant or not at the time, we supported him, what does that make us? Enablers.

He meant that there are no such powers granted to the government, it doesn't have to be specific to one company, Le Frenchy.

As near as I can tell, they are all topped off with all the crap McDonalds' heards can supply - including the ex-VP. I especially like Cheney's "Now that I am not vice-president, I can speak in public." When I say political skills, I mean his timing, his delivery, his choice of locations, his diction, most importantly the tone of his speeches, but even what he has his wife doing. In each and every one of these areas, he beats Cheney hands down.

we agree, with one exception - I'd pit Cheney's wife against Obama's any day of the week. but again, Obama is a master. I do think it is funnier than all hell to see Democrats in the senate push back.

My point was your deliberate use of "Le Frenchy" as an insult. This is obvious from the fact that many of the Americans posting here, espcially the conservative kind to which you seem to belong, despise anything European, particularly French, as if it was written in the Constitution. It is your freedom to not like them, I couldn't care less. But your use of insults outlines your lack of hability to oppose a solid argument. In fact, you seem to be a dimwit, and you also seem to recognize it by choosing the name of a rather primitive processor as your nickname. Everybody posts something stupid from time to time, but in your case, it is a trademark.

we have a republic with the only powers available to the central, Federal government limited to those specifically enumerated in the Constituition. No where in the Constituition is there a power to decide winners and losers, which is what is happening in the auto industry. this limitation is further strengthened by the 10th amendment. all the preceding has been ignored since the time of Woodrow Wilson and individual states, the possessors of powers not enumerated in the Constituition as being those of the Federal government, some 21 thus far, have passed legislation or resolutions restating that fact. the net result is that we may be heading for some rough, very rough times as states begin to assert the above. there was one such resolution passed in the Indiana senate but ignored in the house, there will be legislation introduced in the 2010 session to reinforce the 10th amendment.

The problem goes back at least to the time of Theodore Roosevelt ... and, further, to Lincoln.

Chrysler once, way back in the way back. that was in the form of a loan that was repaid. I'm not sure I can recall anything similar for the airline industry, but my memory isn't what it once was.

New York and the Savings and Loan industry. I didn't remember what happened with New York but I thought they were given very limited help then told to pound sand. The S & L stuff didn't bail out the S & Ls, they went away, the money may have gone to CD holders, etc but I can't be certain. thanks for the link, interesting info.

Much of it was uplifting and inspiring. I especially liked the part where he said, that he and his administration didn't want to look back or litigate the stupid mistakes made out of fear and lack of forethought by the previous Administration. I'm really glad he is so focused on the future, especially, as he has reminded us a few times each week, he inherited all of his problems. My goodness, if he looked back, he probably would have to remind us that everything is Bush's fault a few times each day! He's made it quite clear that he intends to work with Republicans and listen to his critics and, of course, he made all this clear in a hastily arranged press conference deliberately designed to preempt Dick Cheney's speech. Bi-partisanship is such a wonderful thing. ;) All kidding aside, I may disagree with the man quite often, but I just have to admire his political skills. Watching him work is like getting a chance to hear Heifetz in person or watch Picasso at his easel.

we have a republic with the only powers available to the central, Federal government limited to those specifically enumerated in the Constituition.

Compared to another reply, yours is of encyclopedic proportions. Thanks for clarifying. I tend to agree with the conservatives who are angry with their tax money being handed over to big corporations who have failed and prone to fail again.

                                          A. He's not a conservative. Druggies, whatever else they may be, are npt conservatives. Ask Dick Cheney - or Stan. B. I don't despise the people of Europe in general or of France in particular. I despise the European Union'd bureacrats and the French Government - and I don't have much respect for the war record of the French armed services in the 20th century, either. C. It's not in the Constitution - though I think Dick Cheney floated the idea of an amendment to that effect in 2003. ;)
