The day the Earth Stood Still (2008)[^] Misadvertised which is a shame, for me an improvement over the original. Real science fiction, makes you think.

It wasn't perfect, but it was ok. I enjoyed it and that's what matters (to me; you may have a different opinion). I know what you mean about misadvertised - the trailers for most movies seem to be from a parallel universe. On telly last night was "A night in the museum" which from the trailers looked good. On screen, total drivel. At least it saved me bothing to watch the sequel, which we had thought might be good.

The first one is OK and the kid really likes it, but we saw the sequel on Saturday and there's no meat to it. They rushed it to market as usual.

It took me a while to bring myself to watch this film as the original was so boring and lame, but I finally did it two days ago. While not AS bad as the original (this had some cool effects such as the giant robot and what happened with him), but it was still below anything I would call worth watching.

Keanu Reeves, has the acting ability of a 3 week dead halibut. He can act all the way from "Yo" to "dude". Anything more complex leads to his eyebrow twitching uncontrollably.

It was the best looking Star Trek ever. And had Sylar as Spock and the dude from Harold and Kumar. What's not to like? =P Finally a ST laser that isn't cringe worthy.. lol Day the Earth Stood Still is quite an ok sci fi movie. But how do make that decision without spending the time? There is always the chance it might suddenly get good in the last hour, last 30 mins, last 15 mins, post endtitles, and so on..

I beg to disagree. Fortunately, Neo wasn't required to display any depth as a character, and let's face it - people are far more impressed by the special effects and superior storyline than they are with Keanu "Whoooaaahhhhh. Bogus" Reeves.

TDTESS had a good story, ST did not. The first wasn't big on visual effects, while the latter was purely that. Also, the fact that the Enterprise was much more advanced looking than Picard's, but still had water, pipes, and gears in the engine room, made it comedic. To me, this was also Insurrection all over again.

You like to argue with yourself? Reeves isn't a bad actor. He played Bill as the role required him to. But alas, people assume it's Reeves who's the idiot. Matrix was the best special effects movie in that regard. However, I've seen Japanese kung-fu movies that had those effects first (used much less), but no one hears about them.

Nothing about The Matrix was orginal. The story had been done before in anime and the effects were being used. They just weren't in western movies, which made it the first well known movie to use the effects and story. Ghost in the Shell is the most well known anime to have the story. No idea of the movie names to use the effects though. Tracking them down is difficult. Legally anyway. lol Fully agree. TDTESS had a better storyline than ST. But ST had pretty decent effects and didn't really take itself seriously. It was very comedic. Which made it fun to watch. TDTESS is a lot better. But nothing wrong with a good looking movie where you can switch brain off and enjoy a few hrs of nothing. :D
