I would agree here. I have used Jing for a while; as a free app, it has solid features. The screencapture is easy. The video capture (with sound as in voice over) is great for short on the fly tutorials and it defaults to flash so any browser can run them. I use it at the office to record tips-n-tricks stuff for the production group. :-D another one I don't see anywhere in the replies is Evernote (www.evernote.com). It is great for capturing all kinds of stuff and storing online. I use it to gather and tag webpages, screen captures, and other stuff between my office and home. The database sync's on a timer so you have the same stuff at your fingertips from any login. It also works inside a browser login so you can access your notes anywhere. pretty cool.:cool:

www.screencast-o-matic.com[^] free. Or Camstudio. Great tool but make sure you choose a good codec else it won't be too cool. I use it rather frequently and it captures audio and video perfectly, and if you have your codec configured properly, you will get superb quality with low file size. Freeware and (can be) portable.

What codec do you use? I tried all, including xvid, but the video always turns out with greyed out colours
Here are the settings that I use. No guarantee that their the best (i'm not a codec pro) but they work very well for me. http://g.imagehost.org/0593/Settings.png[^] [edit] note that the "BitRate" slider has a huge deal to do with the quality of the compression. Set it 7000ish and adjust to taste.

Another vote for Jing by Tech Smith. For free, it rocks. My only gripe would be how long it takes to launch it. But since I have this in my Windows Startup, it doesn't bother me too often. Once it is loaded, it does everything I need to grab screenshots and do simple mark-up, or record short video (has to be 5 minutes or less). You can upgrade from the free version to a paid version for $15/year. When you do, you get a video-record option that allows you to record in .mpeg format. Or you can still choose the option that is available with the free version: Flash.

Sure Ed, Command-Shift-4 is the best I have found. Best of all it's free and part of every macbook (or any other mac for that matter) because it's part of OS X. I work on four machines, Vista/PC (love it), XP/PC on two dev boxes (no problem), and my own, newly acquired, first mac ever (a whole new way of enjoying life, on a computer that is). I find many other developers and IT pros buying mac products for their own, personal computers. In fact, I was exposed to this new (new to me anyway) approach for developing apps targeting the Microsoft platform when I attended our .NET user group. What I found was a well known Microsoft presenter that did all his work on a macbook running VMware. Great presentation with no apparent app execution speed issues. Wow! What a breath of fresh air this has been. I'm not trying to stir-up any fights or flame wars, just giving an honest appraisal, maybe a useful one for future considerations.

Hi, personally i prefer Wink. http://www.debugmode.com/wink/[^] Great features provide: 1. Record screen motion, you can playback later. 2. Output to flash, or executable flash (in .exe), and source file saved in picture, can be edit (can select compression rate) 3. Record voice. 4. You able to add play/stop point in the middle of video, or add notation box to the screen. (since it is flash) 5. flexible capture area on screen. 6. It is free! Sufficient for me! Regards, tzuhsun
