Windows XP - What a relief!
-
I haven't used vista enough to see it's uglier side yet. On my new system it generally seems to perform better than a fresh installation of XP SP3 and I get higher frame rates in games etc even with aero and that sidebar thing etc all running. Guessing the drivers for my hardware have just been optimized more for vista or something. The UAC annoys the hell out of me but it can always be disabled. There a probably a lot of negative things I haven't seen yet though as I'm still using XP as my primary OS (thinking things like registry virtualization, general compatibility issues etc).
XP is more logical, simple, and easy on the eyes. Not only that, it does everything I need it to do. What MS should have done is built on the ideology of XP.

In other words, you are used to it.

XP has been the way I described since it first came out. I was used to NT/98 but XP was immediately better. I have used Vista on and off since the betas. It just doesn't cut it.

I honestly don't understand the animosity towars Vista. I don't claim that it was the best OS ever, but it wa pretty good. Every time I use XP I miss the "instant search" for apps and stiff. I think ppl got so attached to XP because it was around for so long and it was really just Win2k in a pretty dress. I think everyone forgot that it was even less stable than Vista when it first came out. I do love win7 and I've almost completely switched to it (I have several computers). I love the new task bar, and I love that MS finally decided to do some optimization. I think they should have held off Vista and released win7 instead. However, it may not have been as good without all the feedback they got from Vista :)

Windows XP is so much better. After using Vista 64 for a few months XP is like the grandest OS ever. It just feels good.

My experience of vista search is that the instant app search works well but it is the only bit that works, all other searching on vista sucks like a black hole full of vacuum cleaners. dir /s... still works great on vista though!
