One could, no doubt, make this case for pretty much any country. An immigrant, no matter how well educated and experienced, has no right to expect to pitch up in a country and immediately get the work they want unless part of the deal was a pre-arranged job. First time I lived overseas I had to do some really crappy jobs but I just got on with it knowing it was part of the deal: the difference, I suppose, is that I knew it was a stepping stone and an essential part of the learning curve, not my life's career. Anyone that thinks they can just turn up in another country and be instantly 'street-smart' is a moron and deserve what they get. Further, we are in a recession; jobs are harder to come by than normal so even the local populations are suffering and, fairly or not, an immigrant will find it even harder to find meaningful work.

Weird. My dad was a Canadian immigrant and he's an Engineer. He never had that problem.

Watch some of the documentaries at airports, some of the people who think they can go to a country and get whatever they want is amazing.

There's an old joke about Egyptian workers going to the Gulf countries for work. Think people in an impovireshed country seeking fortunes in another country and you'll get the joke. [Egyptian laborer] Look! 1 Kuwaiti Dinar on the floor! :Goes to pick it up: [Other Egyptian laborer] Eh! Are you crazy?! Wait till you get to Kuwait, you'll be picking up 100 KD off of the floor. Don't be petty and leave the 1 KD.

Sounds like a disgruntled lumberjack immigrant from Oregon...

The same thing happens with natives in their own country, a lot of engineers, doctors, and etc are sub employed. Most of them didn't have a opportunity to enter the market or couldn't study in a good university. This is what happens in Brazil. As I'm trying to immigrate by the end of this year (to Canada), I hope I'm right :~
