I just like the search results. So far the seaches I've done on it have come up with more relevant results than I got on google. All the bells and whistles for me are just annoying. For me to switch to bind, the results have to be the best. And so far they are.

I would love to ditch google. Bing is not quite there yet. I've been using it as my primary search engine for a couple days now: -searching for a phrase within a site, e.g. site:somewebsite.com "foo bar is baz" didn't find the result on Bing, but was the first result on Google. -define:foobar doesn't work on Bing. -Occasionally, search results that ought to be first or in the top 5 (and are on Google) are listed way down in the search results. There are some nice Bing features, but if they can't get the search results right, all those features are in vain. I hope Bing search results improve.

Actually, no one ever said you have to have just one search provider :) I have been using Bing and like a lot of what I see so far. There have only been a few times I hit Google to fill that gaps, but it is far better than the old "Live" search.

I agree! They have done a lot better with this search engine and I find I like the new features, even though I have not used them that much yet, once I get use to them there, I am sure I will enjoy them more. One thing I would love to see with a search engine, is to have a flag to search within the current search results to futher reduce the results and narrow down on a target. Another feature along the same lines would be the abilty to cleans the results you already have of a given site or term without having to keep adding the "-" to your search term, just work on the current result set. Also a few grouping and/or sorting features on the current result set would be nice. Overall though, I think they are doing good.

You know everyone complains about Vista, but I like it. I've been running it since beta 2. Sure in the beginning my sound card (Creative Labs) wouldn't work and neither would my Samsung color laser printer. I bought a new sound card :) and eventually printer drivers were released for my laser, and I'm still using it. You have to keep one thing in mind when running Vista, you need a beast of a machine to make it work smooth. I have 4GB of mem and a Core 2 Duo 3GHz. The complete hardware build cost me 1500 for two idenitcal machines, one for me one for my wife. I ran Windows 7 the other day and it seemed to use just as much resources as Vista.

My current home dev machine (an oldy!) runs Vista quite smoothly. It was very good with Weven Beta but it became virtually unuseable with Weven RC. It's an old machine with only 2GHz processor (single core) and 1GB RAM. Yesterday I removed Weven RC and went back to XP - WOW! Super fast. It will only be unavailability of XP that will force most people/businesses to Weven, plus new PCs with it pre-installed. Unless something changes radically between RC and the release version, it will need a minimum of 2GB of RAM and a dual core processor IMO. For the majority of end users and businesses this is more than they currently have - or need!

It is better than Live Search. It still feels like, due to the holes in the search results, that if I really need to find what I'm looking for, Google is the way to go. As long as that assumption holds, Bing won't overtake Google.

I am beginning to think MS planned this crap. We had Win 95 which was not bad. Windows 98 (Second Edition) was fantastic. Windows Millennium was a stinking pile of poop. Windows XP was very good. Windows Vista was terrible. Windows 7, appears to be very good. Maybe MS released Vista in order to build / generate hype for Windows 7. Most business are just flat out skipping Vista. Besides 99% of MS products still run on XP. The adoption rate for Windows 7 will be higher. People are talking up Windows Vista because it is faster / better than Vista. But is it faster / better than XP. BTW, I just used a coworkers computer this morning who is using XP (I'm using Vista). His machine is much quicker. I was thinking to myself, why the hell am I running Vista?

Ordinarily this figure would have been much lower but obviously MS have noted that it would have been financially disastrous to stick to that. Maybe in a year's time new products will start saying "Requires Windows Vista or higher."

Yeah I like how you can see your previous search queries and links you visited however, as I've always said MS would be better just renting a GOOGLE search server and making money off of ads it puts on there. MS should stick to what it does/did best, Operating Systems. Google is by far the hands down winner when it comes to Web Search. One time I was on Live searching for "Arguments" for some code and got "Breast Augments".. That totally ate up the rest of my day, all those pictures, LOL....

Why? Competition is good. Even when a competing product is not quite there it keeps the market leader on its toes.

I've been looking for a replacement for Google for about a year or 3 now. It has just gotten so tedious to use thier search. Unfortunately noone has yet to come up with anything better so I continued using it. I've tried every new search engine I find at least for a few weeks exclusively but eventually, always come back to google because I miss the special features (news/maps/email mostly). I switched to bing as my default search as soon as it released (early I might add) and for the first time, I am not feeling any regrets. The only complaint I have is that unlike google, the order of your search terms matters in the results so you cant just tack on anotehr word to help refine your search. This might be a good thing but really don't think so. For example: "june 5 2009" and "5 june 2009" really should not return different search results imo. I also noticed the news article that said overnight bing became the #2 search engine (over Yahoo). The interesting thing is that the market share came almost exclusively from google (not proportionally from other providers) which indicates there are a ton of other people in the world with the same attitude as me towards google currently.

Google is the best; I have not seen better search results from any other engine. Have you? Why would I love to ditch Google, you ask? Because Google puts forth a self-righteous and pompous image. "Do no evil", "We're all open source!", "We're here to make the world a better place!" I swear, everything coming out of that organization is like something from a Miss America pageant. Google exists to maximize profit like any other corporation. That doesn't make them evil, it makes them a corporation. They are no different than Microsoft; Google only has the advantage of being trendy. Besides, what the Slashdot crowd is herding towards, I tend to polarize opposite. ;)

You are right. Windows 7 is basically Vista SP2. It usually takes until the 3rd build for an OS to be good. And Windows 7 is really Vista SP2 or second Edition.

No, but I can't say I've done an exhaustive comparison either. However, a lot of the integration with other services is nice. E.g., type in a post code, get a Google Maps location. Bing doesn't do that.

Naturally. It would be refreshing if corporations just admitted that. A while back I read about a Chinese company working on some Green technology - can't recall exactly what it was now. But I remember their saying they weren't doing it for the sake of the planet, they were doing it to make money. Refreshingly honest. :)

That's right. Though I expect over a period of time, if it gets more dominant, that Google will experience the same treatment that Microsoft does.

No, but I can't say I've done an exhaustive comparison either. However, a lot of the integration with other services is nice. E.g., type in a post code, get a Google Maps location. Bing doesn't do that.

I don't take such pronouncements seriously. No-one else should.

I agree with everything you said. Really. And it's not too often one can make such a statement on the internet. :)

It is better than Live Search. It still feels like, due to the holes in the search results, that if I really need to find what I'm looking for, Google is the way to go. As long as that assumption holds, Bing won't overtake Google.

So far that has not been the case this short time I have been using. There were a few times I hit Google to search something up if I could not find what I was looking for fast enough on Bing, but not all the time that I did use Google after Bing did it find it there either. I have noticed that when I am trying to find a company, there have been times when I found it earlier in the Bing search result than the Google. It does not seem to be anything like the old Live.com which seemed to often blow a search. Of coure, Bing does not have all the additional features that Google has at the moment, but the addition interface and grouping can help out on some topics. Again though, I do not lock myself down to just one search enging, I enjoy the freedom of that little search box at the top of IE8 with all those out search engines when I run into a dead search, which now with Bing is far less than Live.com search :)
