Opera Unite...

Love the idea (even though Opera are not the first to try this) and they've got a decent user experience going. Couple problems though; worked about 1 in 5 times for me. Early product yes but frustrating to launch it as "changing the web" and it doesn't work. Another problem; It is tied to Opera, both the browser and the company (you need an Opera account.) What I'd prefer to see is serious UX work done on the web-servers that ship with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Make them easy to setup (securely) and use. Make people aware of them. Solve port forwarding issues (Opera Unite uses UPnP Port Forwarding.) Some smarthones (iPhone at least) can have web-servers installed on them. Loads of fun walking into a WiFi net and telling someone they can get files/sites off the phone in your pocket. The 2-way web is promising though. Makes sense to use our bandwidth and resources instead of solely relying on vast data-farms.
cheers, Paul M. Watson.

My immediate reaction is that if it's tied into Opera it's doomed to fail. IE, FF, and *maybe* Chrome or Safari are the only browsers with enough market share to pull off a major proprietary app. Opera's 1% market share just won't do it, and they should've put the resources into getting O10 finished instead.

While it sounds like a nice idea, I'm betting that there will be a malware exploit for it before there's a useful application built to use it.

Probably. FF's gains have largely undercut the browser monopoly claims, OTOH the EU might've set them up to make the accusation to justify withdrawing another billion from the Bank of MS to fund their operations. </cynic>

One of the US states openly admitted as much in their own case, having just won an antitrust payment from MS!

Presumably you're talking about Mississippi since they just won a case. <Insert redneck joke here>
