Lemonade recipe for summer
-
Given it was blisteringly hot here earlier and looks set to get even hotter tomorrow, here's a lemonade recipe I've developed that's guaranteed to make you forget the heat. You'll need (for 1 litre): 4 lemons 100g of caster sugar Water Carbonated water (optional) A good dash of happy juice Method: 1) Thinly peel the zest from the lemons. 2) Squeeze the lemons. 3) Place the zest, juice and sugar in a large heat-proof jug. 4) Pour in 500ml of boiling water and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Cover and leave until completely cold. 5) Strain the mixture into a jug and dilute with 400ml of chilled water. Use carbonated water if you like to add a bit of fizz. Now for the good bit - If you have children who habitually raid the fridge and like lemonade, you might want to consider this next bit. 6) Add the happy juice! I reckon with a good vodka about 200ml per litre of lemonade is just about right, but adjust according to taste (and how merry you want to be). If you live somewhere that has fewer restrictions on strong alcohol than the UK you could use a grain spirit or similar - I've also used a spirit called Spirytus I bought in Poland which went down very nicely. 7) Serve over ice. Enjoy responsibly! (Seriously, this stuff slips down a treat. It is very, very easy to lose 12 hours of your life and wonder why you're lying in the middle of the garden!)

Sounds tasty! I'll give it a shot this weekend. We usually dump a whole bottle of vodka in a sun tea jar, chop up a bunch of lemons, add a little sugar, duct tape the lid close, and shake it until we get thristy! Yours sounds more gourmet.
