Ok, It starts today. No Brett Lee, ah, shame. No Shane Warne, Yippee! No Glenn McGrath, Thank the Gods. Now if someone will nobble Ponting we will be happier still! I predict England will regain the Ashes. However, what idiot made Wales the location for the first game between England and Australia? Have the authorities been upset by someone at Old Trafford?

Umm, you do know the team called England really represents England and Wales, don't you? (There's no separate Wales team.) The ECB is actually the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Cheers, Vikram. (Proud to have finally cracked a CCC!)

Also alas, no Harmison (bowling like a tit again), Simon Jones (so Ricky, he really was injured) or Flintoff (will probably be injured before we reach half way in the series). Much as I would love to agree that we'll win them back - who's going to take the wickets? Anderson can't bowl all day from both ends? Broad, I sadly suspect, will get demolished by the likes of Ponting. I would go with Sidebottom if he is in form and fit (I'm a bit out of touch) as a bit of swing does seem to unsettle the Aussies sometimes - they did lose a few wickets to Hoggard last time. I think we have the batsmen but the bowling is a concern. Re Cardiff, according to Lord Somebody on Radio 4 yesterday: money never came into it (honest guv). Cardiff won because all grounds are graded according to strictly measurable criteria and it outscored the likes of Old Trafford The city is also well used to catering for and transporting large crowds for rugby and soccer matches Also, God's own country is expected to remain dry today whereas England will be dotted with showers And finally, the Aussies are complaining because they aren't at Lord's. Anything that upsets them can't be such a bad thing can it? Rich

I would beg to differ - they play as a minor county. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wales_national_cricket_team[^]"> Rich

Lord's is traditionally the Second Test anyway. I would love to see some swing, it has been wet so there will be some going on.

Unfortunately it works both ways. I saw the Aussies a couple of times in '89 and a certain Mr. Alderman causing a few problems ... Rich

Nope, time to watch a decent sport that takes less time to watch than growing a beard. Life is too short to have cricket in it.

can't argue with that - if it takes longer than 90 minutes it's not worth watching :)

Actually it was on Radio 4 this morning. Also, for cricket I don't use Wiki, I use Cricinfo.

The Chairman/Director, whatever title he is, of the Cardiff ground said this morning that they got the game because they outbid the opposition, simple as that.

What is the issue with Wales hosting a match? Too far for supporters to travel? Doesn't have the infrastructure for the number of supporters? Or is the answer "it's not England", bearing in mind it's the England and Wales Cricket Board
