Outlook: Reopen a recently closed mail

Just wondering, is there a feature/add-in in Outlook which can open a recently closed mail? I seem to spend a lot of time re-searching the mail in the huge PST once I close it. :^) Dont you think such a feature would be very useful...

I'm guessing that by "closed" you actually mean "deleted", or more specifically "shift-deleted or just after emptying the Deleted Items folder"... Otherwise it'll presumably be in a folder somewhere you can access.

I'm guessing that by "closed" you actually mean "deleted", or more specifically "shift-deleted or just after emptying the Deleted Items folder"... Otherwise it'll presumably be in a folder somewhere you can access.

No, by "closed" I mean "closed" only :) . Imagine, you did a search and found a mail in your huge PST. you read it and close it. Now, after 10 min and after looking at lot of mails, you want to reply to that searched mail again. What do you do? you will have to search for it again in the huge PST... Instead if we have a "Most Recently Opened" mails list, it would have been very easy....

OK - I misunderstood you there, although I can't say I've had that problem. I filter my emails into different folders (lots of folders) according to subject area, and can usually find stuff very quickly either searching a couple of folders or just sorting by different headings, e.g. sender, subject etc. I thought by searching in the PST you meant opening it in a different editor and manually searching through it... :)

The list would therefore have to be encrypted, of course. And how about making the list entries follow the e-mails if they're moved? It's a closed environment, so it's perfectly feasible. And "Remove from list" and "Do not add to history" options? You could also make it the parent of other lists -- e.g. a "temporary favourites" FIFO list, where mails that you are pretty sure you will want to read again soon can be stored (until they drop off the bottom). Get creative. Make it useful. (I can't believe I needed that edit! Oh, the humanity!)

Absolutely, I could do all of those things. Or not bother and just get drunk. I'm going with the second of those two options, but Pravarakhya may well be a bit more appreciative of your input :D

I do that too, and finding mails become a lot complicated for me with a lot of folders... :)

I can find any mail within few minutes though, but I dont want to do it second time if I want to find same mail.

Absolutely. They are all real good points! Thanks Mark!:thumbsup: I'm also thinking of handling mails in different outlook PSTs. so when an MRO mail is moved from current PST to Archive PST, it should still be able to open it from Archive. :cool: I still believe its going to be a simple yet powerful add-in!

That seems not a bad idea. I can though search through emails from my 2GB PST files, but sometimes, it is really hard to remember what to search :) So I developed something already, that is, add comments to your emails and reminder as well. So it will remind you at given time, and also, you can search through your comments. Seems good? give it a try Outlook PA[^] Sameers

I use Windows Search specifically to deal with e-mails. I've heard people grumble about it, but it has been a life-saver. I file e-mails as soon as I've read them, and also flag them if needed, but there are times I can't find them, and Windows Search really helps.

That seems not a bad idea. I can though search through emails from my 2GB PST files, but sometimes, it is really hard to remember what to search :) So I developed something already, that is, add comments to your emails and reminder as well. I have seen Outlook PA, seems to be a very good idea. But for a lazy guy like me, its a hefty addin needing to input a lot of details. ;P Just a suggestion for your website, could you please remove the horizontal scrolling, its really read through with that scroll bar. :^)

Yes, you are right, its my product and I am lazy enough. Ah! you are right as well for the horizontal scrolling. I am actually using 1680*1050 screen size and I didn't realize that the snapshots are too big to fit on normal screen. I will resize that to fit on the screen. thanks for the suggestion. Sameers
