As I recall the whole problem was that it took quite a bit more power to do broadcast power than running it over wires. Broadcast energy was a cool plot element in the book Gallagher's Glacier. Old sci fi book. [^] I think the theory was that you'd have towers at intervals and you'd never have to 'charge' your car you'd just drive it around and it would suck power out of the air. Same deal with your toaster or TV, you'd just turn the device on and it had no batteries or power plug of any kind. Just a receiver.
