Cop who arrested black scholar is profiling expert[^] An expert on the dangers of profiling that is. Obama apologise to the police officer[^] Mr Obama also revealed that he had spoken to Sgt Crowley on the telephone, and described him as an "outstanding police officer and a good man". At least he was honest enough to do this.

The cop was responding to an emergency call from a neighbor saying that someone was breaking into the professor's house. When he asked the professor (whom he had never met, and did not recognize to be the owner of the house) to step out on the porch to explain his presence in the house, the professor refused and became quite belligerent. I don't think the cop did anything out of racial motives, but do think the professor jumped to conclusions and behaved quite poorly - and was quite racist in his response. Sadly, there is a double standard at work here, and the officer might lose his job unjustly because if the ranting of the real racist here. It is doubly sad that Obama stuck his nose into this without first ascertaining the facts.

This is why I wait a while when there is a high profile incident, it takes a while for the truth to fall out the trees.

Although I can understand the professor's paranoia the details are appearing so hopefully the officer will be fine.

And said scholar teaches black history/culture.. Gates then stated, "Why, because I'm a black man in America?" Maybe, just maybe, he was profiling as well, or wanted to make a "name" for himself. Either way, we really have better things to do then making this a huge media event. Both seem to have gone over the top.

Well, Obama called him out directly and said the police officers actions were stupid. [joke]Are you disagreeing with the black Jesus?

He already had to apologize to Nancy Reagan: http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/barackobama/a/obama-isms.htm[^] I think this one is funnier: Quote: "I've now been in 57 states -- I think one left to go." --at a campaign event in Beaverton, Oregon Although it does not beat Bill Clinton with "I did not have sex with that woman..." (Wich technically was true...)

I love a good cop hate story as much as anyone, so when I first read the headline about this I got excited. However, once I read the details I discovered it was really just some guy trying to provoke a cop so he could have something to bitch about.
