Metal: Slayer

I do love South of Heaven. Metallica is another example - even Kill em all had far better song writing than their peers.

Yes, on both counts, the lyrics actually even scan well.

I think South of Heaven is their best. I admit to not having all of Slayer's albums, I just have the big ones, like Reign in blood and South of heaven.

It probably is their best, but Seasons in the Abyss is pretty damn brilliant as well.

That's my favourite, but it still does not beat Pantera's Vulgar Display of Power :)

((λ (x) `(,x ',x)) '(λ (x) `(,x ',x)))I dunno, that's bloody good, but I don't have enough bandwidth to download it now, but Pantera never featured that high for me. Rather Sepultura, now Soulfly.

Heh, "jumpda(not ksf)up" Although not really in the same league as some of the above, Lamb of God are popular on my iPhone these days. Very energetic, great riffage (technical term ;) )

Is it just me, or do they have something 'special'? The guitar is great, but the complete arrangements are what I think set them apart. Listening to Spill the Blood, off South of Heaven.
In the mid 90s I went to see then at Brixton Academy in London - the night before I had seen Ministry at the same venue. It took my ears some time to recover.

Although King and Araya thought it was a lethargic album. King really didn't like his performance on it compared to Reign in Blood.

That's a great album - although I prefer Reign in Blood. Try listening to it at anything above a whisper - it's like having your head wrenched open by a million tortured angels.

They have their unique sound - and they were one of the pioneers on the thrash metal scene. All of the band members contribute to that I think. I really like their Raining Blood track.

Another band from that era that I like is Anthrax. Also from the thrash metal genre. If you haven't, do check them out. :)
