    let me help you out there: None have Mandatory paid maternity leave. Most businesses don't have water slides either. I think businesses run best when they get to decide where it's important to spend money. Good ol freedom of choice.

      Remember that freedom choice thing I mentioned? It works both ways. I'm free to leave if I don't like the conditions. I am a big boy and take responsibility for my livelihood and my happiness. I don't require a bureaucratic babysitter to do it for me.

        As a right-winger I was astonished that a few months back the HP had a link to my blog. Between that and making a lol that made the main page of I Can Haz Cheezeburger, I felt like I was at the echelon of my life. Sad.

          The US has at least adopted a guarantee of your previous job if you take what is covered under FMLA. It was not for many years. As a woman, I personally do not see why my company should pay you for having a kid. As a woman, who decided not to have kids, what kind of compensation can I get that equals that?

            Female employees would have to be paid less to compensate for the costs of paying for a worker that isn't working, and she would need to be a full-time and long-term employee.

              you have obviously never been shafted by the man... i agree you do the have power to walk away, but you are still helpless to stop your expliotation unless your self employed

                Being able to walk away means I'm never helpless. It may be a painful option but I'm free to take it. Working for others = exploitation. If they were not benefiting more from my labor than the cost of my labor there is no reason to hire me. I've known this and agreed to it with every job I've held.

                    Australia does not either. And why should they? When we decided to have a child we planned and saved so that she could be a stay at home mum. We wanted a child and we wanted her to be home so we went without other things and payed for it ourselves. Why should the Australian tax payer or her previous employer have to foot the bill? Being in a financial position to have one or both partners stay home with a child is not a right.
