That's what got me. It's an IE 8 window, so is IE 8 installed just to view it?

"Speaking with TechFlash, Opera Software CTO Hakon Wium Lie has questioned the use of the famous IE icon in a ballot screen Microsoft said it's willing to include in Windows." IE icon too familiar for Microsoft EU settlement?[^] I expected something like this as the next move. No doubt once this complaint is met they will complain that IE appears first in the list as it gives the market leader an unfair advantage. :omg:

I just want to punch the guy in the face. You can't ask people not to use their logo. Imagine buying a new car that doesn't have the makers badge on it, just their name in small letters under the front bumper, so that people aren't more inclined to buy the make of car that's most popular.

I do have Opera installed and have done since 1998. It's not my default but I do use it from time to time. However, I'm seriously considering dumping them. At the very least I ought to get around to sending them some stroppy feedback. They're just taking the piss now. Ironically, instead of Opera's bitching about Microsoft, they should ask themselves how Firefox has managed to get to 20+% market share while Opera is stuck at 1%. They should also be moaning about the way Google is pushing Chrome everywhere in big bold letters. We all go to www.google.com and right there is "install Chrome." Maybe if Chrome gets to 30% share?

I found a way to get rid of that! Yeah, I just installed chrome ;P I quite like it though. I never really liked FireFox, mostly because all of the people that posted about it where so far up themselves, shame really.

What utter bollocks. It could also be argued that Google has an unfair advantage, because so many people appear to think that Google is the Internet.

Yep. Plus all their sites ask you to "download Chrome for a superior experience."

I have Chrome installed too, although I prefer Firefox. Though I must say that the most common reasons that people cite for choosing their favourite browser are not my reasons.

It's a shame! There is no way Europe will ever breed a company like MS. What a bunch of whiners!

The proposal is that only the top 5 browsers should appear in the list. Purely coincidentally, of course, Opera is currently No. 5.

And yet the screenshot shows placeholders for browsers 6 and 7, and with enough right scroll to possibly leave room for number 8 as well.

I know, but elsewhere I read that the proposal was for the top 5 browsers. I think Opera had suggested that a few weeks ago and then MS suggested the same.

I live in the EU and I would back microsoft if they did pull out. [rant] I think it's a stupid battle that really affects no-one. If I want another browser, I'll install it. If I don't want IE, I wont use it... I HAVE a choice.. gah Next they'll be complaining that you can't uninstall the startbar and write your own and that's SO unfair! [/rant]

MS could argue they have been doing a ballot screen all along. It is just it had only one spot (the first one!) :)
