Young Henry mentioned his mother's Birthday below and it reminded me of a probability experiment that states if 23 people are in a room, it is more likely than less that 2 of them share a birthday. What date is your birthday people? Mine is 31st March. Let us see if the first 23 posters to this can get a matching pair?

I believe you are a bit wrong. If you have 366 people, you can guarantee that at least 2 people share birthdays. It´s called "the Pigeonhole principle" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeonhole_principle[^]

Actually, i think they share the same month, not the exact date. This is a theory of combinatorics (the pigeon hole principle) rather than probability. In any event: 13th February

The way I know it: If you have 366 people in a room, it's guaranteed (100%) that at least 2 share their birthday, which is obvious. If you have 23 people in a room, it's likely (> 50%) that at least 2 share their birthday, which is not obvious, but it's mathematically proved to be true.

This is just basic probability. One of my favourite maths experiments is to ask people whether or not they are more likely to roll two consecutive 6s with a dice or a 2 then a 3.

The probability of at least two people sharing the same birthday is 0.5073. Yay, I've found a use for Wolfram Alpha! http://www04.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=same+birthday&f1=23&f=BirthdayProblem.n_23&x=5&y=9[^]
