    Macbook cracks threaten to upset Apple cart[^] Apple is refusing to formally acknowledge a widespread design flaw in its Macbook products that could develop into a major PR disaster and spark a recall. To put this in perspective it's a tiny crack, and to further put it in perspective I've seen what happens to those $599 laptops you can buy after 12 months and it's not pretty. But still. You pay the Apple Tax you should get treated with a little respect.

      I wonder how they hold up to users here (debacles include placing laptop screen < 1" below desk lamp, sweeping laptop from desk, and leaving it on in the bag).

        That sounds like asking someone to bend over, and when he does compliment him on his rear shape.

        Don't attribute to stupidity what can be equally well explained by buerocracy.

          Hi, I thought they were an innovative company and expected them to start selling expensive collorfull cases (with limmited warranty and a nice set of design screws) all together packed with an also collorfull manual on how to replace the case to express yourselve :) But seriously I think they should take full responsibillity and aknowledge their faillure and offer a full compensation to their customers especially at this low budget market of students etc since the money they have paid for this product doesn't come for free and is made mostly by working hard for low wages in all sort of jobs.

            Ahh. Now I understand why they were so quick to fix this when I called about another issue! I recently returned my MacBook for a CDROM repair under warranty. They were very good about repairing the CDROM even though I admitting dropping it (a short distance in the bag). They also immediately volunteered to fix the crack when I told them about it. If it hadn't been for the CDROM, I would have chalked it up to normal wear and tear and never called them about it. It must depend on which rep you talk to. I also purchased an AppleCare agreement, which may explain the better treatment. :doh:

                and they didnt make you sign the usual forms (those that say if you mention a problem with an apple product they will send the boys round!)
