You've never been to a Jewish wedding I take it? If I really pushed and ran around like a headless chicken it can be done for under £15,000 or cheaper if I was to have it in Israel. Or cut down on guests.

My wedding cost less than $500 - and that includes both rings and a limo for 4 hours. No guests, no food, no BS, just me and my wife at the courthouse for 20 minutes. We've been married 10 years. It's less about the wedding day and more about every day you'll spend together afterwards.

I assure you, you'll be begging for more work/cash soon. But, like I said, if she's the one, you will not regret a moment of it :) Best thing she ever did was convince me to marry her :-D

That is very true. however a good wedding can help set off on the right foot. Plus the presents and the inspiration form the day can help.

Same here, except her ring was a tad lot more expensive. Otherwise she's a very frugal woman :D Planning a 10 year renewal in a few years, hopefully on a beach with all and sundry present.

A good wedding is the one where you marry the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, not one that saddles you with thousands of dollars of debt before you've even figured out how to budget together...

£30k? You got no chance. I'm trying to persuade my daughter to elope; I keep leaving a ladder and a £50 note in her boyfriends car...

A co-worker had 650 guests at his *first* wedding. Didn't guarantee a success. :)

Inspiration? I can understand somebody wanting presents (I don't agree with it though), but inspiration? If the man and wife don't have have what it takes to make a marriage work, I don't see how a grand wedding would serve as inspiration. :suss:

That sort of cash could fund a lifetime of sitting under a palm tree on an exotic isle watching the tide roll in.
and that's guaranteed to be more enjoyable than marriage... ;)

That's just over $1000 per month. It's possible I suppose - depends what they calculated into the mix. 1/3 of groceries? I just know it's not additive if you have more than one child. 2 kids cost less than $2000 per month. I have 5 kids and I KNOW I'm not spending $5000/ month on them. The more kids you have the cheaper they become. - Also the older they get, the cheaper they are - Diapers and Formula cost more than buying a trumpet for your high-schooler.

I have bothered to read the article, but I heard this reported on the radio yesterday. That report includec the tidbit that a major portion of the cost is for housing. Well, you have pay for that whether you have zero, twelve, or anywhere in between children. Seems like a misleading headline.

If you have concerns about wedding cost, think twice then, think about divorce cost! :~ :~ :~ (Modified) Sorry, I hadn't seen Marc's similar post. (/Modified)

You should leave 2 tickets to Vegas and some wedding chapel brochures. It's less subtle, still only a fraction of the price and sorts out the honeymoon in one ;)
