Since there has been little SB activity lately, who are your fave female and male comics and why? I personally hate female comics who use vulgarity just for the sake of it.

Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern... Whether a comic is a man or woman is neither here nor there: they should stand or fall on how 'comedic' they are. As for vulgarity it depends whether it adds any value, regardless of whether the comic has chesticles or not.

Eddie Izzard - off the wall genius. Dara O'Briain - Irish comedian who's live shows have to be seen to be believed. Very quick, and loves to get a bit of repartee going with the audience. Ed Byrne - underrated Irish comic. Same reason as Dara O'Briain. Ross Noble and Bill Bailey - watch them on Youtube to find out why I love these guys. Jo Brand - she's an amazing comedian. An ex psychiatric nurse who cracks me up every time I watch her. Shappi Korsandi - an up and coming Iranian comedian. She was raised in England after her family escaped from Iran; coined the immortal "Iran needs to elect a softer leader; a Mullah Light if you like." Lucy Porter - she's just so darned cute. I could eat her up.

"WPF has many lovers. It's a veritable porn star!" - Josh Smith

As Braveheart once said, "You can take our freedom but you'll never take our Hobnobs!" - Martin Hughes.

Caught one of his shows on tv and liked it. So when he came to town we went to see him. Wow was that big mistake. That guy apparently found the biggest shark he could and jumped right over it. I didn't laugh once in the entire show. Other people were laughing occasionally. I'm not sure why, there was nothing funny being said. Maybe they had to the foresight to drink heavily before the show.

John Hodgman is funny. I've always enjoyed Norm Macdonald's delivery, regardless of how bad the jokes are... Pretty much stopped watching SNL after he left.

please define "male" vs. "female" comic.

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

That's a really tricky one...there are quite honestly too many to mention. :-\ Mitchell & Webb[^] have got to be in there, and Shappi Khorsandi[^] is definitely a favourite right now. Then there's Claire Parker[^], who's a friend of mine (and doing the comedy circuit round Brighton) but I've not seen her live yet...
