Guns: A guy came to Obama's townhall meeting with a gun that wasn't concealed.

This patriot is a great guy. I revel in the fact that the whipped little slaves in England and Australia get trumped and stamped with a boot in the face. I can hear the whips and the little Christain Graus's and Richard's screaming "I bow to you my great authority, I beg of you the great privilage of licking your boots. Let me give you my check for some more whippings."[^]

And you lot wonder why the rest of us laugh

Care to explain yourself? That guy is pretty straightforward. I think you laugh because you are so enslaved that you feel that the government (your owner and master) has total power over you, so when you see that people actually stand up to tyranny, you think of it like a mouse standing up to a lion. I think that is very sad for you to think of yourselves as such small helpless creatures.

Blather on all you like in this forum. I have given it to you and the other denizens who liked to go on and on and on and on about US politics, and I also feel that I am trying to be as fair as possible given that this is - first and foremost and only - a programming site. But please do me a favour and keep it out of the Lounge.

What a berk, how many presidents have been shot? if everyone was armed how do you protect anybody? how is a gun defensive? its an offensive weapon by definition, the treat of a gun is only effective against someone who cares, if the gun was an effective deteriant then you would not have had s president killed as every single one (except maybe lincon!) had armed guards. oh and how if a country that if so safe because of it right to arm bears has had so many presidents shot? gainst how many in the UK and these other slave countries? and exactly how did he stand up to anything? he wore a gun to an event! an event where the use of a gun would be extreamly dangerous in the hands of an unknown quantity, an event in which there were already a lot of heavly armed and nervous people, and in a state were the carrying of said gun was allowed, so whilst doing nothing for the "cause", he actual made the situation more dangerous so showing an exteam lack of judgement. if anything this stunt has forwarded the cause for the baning of guns as it has shown that it allows the guns to be in the hands of people with a distinct lack of judgement.

I believe you're thinking in the wrong terms here. A gun is simply a tool. Offence and Defense are actions. If you are using a gun or any weapon in reaction to a threat you are acting defensively. If you are using it to cause a threat or danger to others where none previously existed you are acting offensively. This is true weather the tool your using is a gun, a knife, or a stick.

I would argue the opposite. This is an example of a responsible gun owner NOT shooting anybody. This guy appears to have used his judgment to remain in safe control of his weapon. The funny thing is you seem to be looking at this as if this one man was the only one carrying a gun at that protest. There are a huge number of people in the US licensed to carry concealed weapons. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if 10% of that crowd was armed.

A gun is not a tool, its a weapon and to call it a tool is a method of trying to make it sound less dangerous than it is, a gun is a device designed for the sole purpose of killing something, it may have other uses - target shooting - a hammer! but thats not its design purpose. the idea thats its defensive is also wrong, its only defensive because an offense can be an effective defense, without an offensive act (the use of or threat to use) a gun is pretty useless unless by a fluke the attack bounces off said gun. No I would say just taking a gun to that kind of event, wether concealed or otherwise shows a lack of judgement. what conceivable situation would arise at that event that would need you to carry a gun? in fact I would say that having a gun at that event would make you more liable to be shot, as, if an attack had happened against the president the SS would imediately target anybody with a gun, you are then relying on the SS making a snap judgment that you are not a threat - big odds

Right. Just like the sole purpose of a computer is to steal identities and download child porn. Just like cars can only be used for drunk driving. The sole purpose of a gun is to accelerate a lead/mettle pellet. PEOPLE are the ones who determine if this is used to kill or ventilate pop cans. Just like with a hammer I can choose to put a nail in a board or bash in a persons head.

I don't know. Not knowing is exactly the reason to be prepared. You know boy-scout motto and all that.

We may not have guns, but we DO have education. Education doesn't result in more school shootings, random killings, etc. So, we win. We also get to laugh at morons like you.

Would you rather have the rock or the gun ? This is also a pile of crap.

And trying to do so, greatly increases your own odds of death. I'd rather live in a country where I CAN defend myself with a rock, because even crooks tend to not have guns.

It appears that you are quite stupid. What other purpose does a gun have, than shooting things ?

I've owned guns and been around them all my life. My family owns guns, all my friend own guns. None of us have ever killed anybody with them. And thankfully none of us have ever had to use them for self defense. We either hunt or shoot targets with them. So the over generalization that guns only serve to kill people is absurd to me. For me guns are tools. How you choose to use them determines if they are a danger or not.
Christian Graus wrote:

None, my point was that the previous poster was stating that their sole purpose was killing. This simply isn't true. Shooting != Killing.

That's right big boy. Hurl your insults from the other side of the world. Don't bother trying to learn anything. Or *GASP* see something from a different point of view. The entire world is just exactly as you say it is.

So you are implying that people who own guns are uneducated? It sounds like that you are saying that education is some type of political indoctrination that you are proud of. We have many exceptionally intelligent highly educated individuals who advocate the right to bear arms. I would argue that they are more educated than people who claim that guns are bad.

Just out of curiosity Christian, how do people in Australia defend themselves? Mace? Tazers? Ninjutsu? Are more classes in self defense or martial arts being taught?
