I remember visiting the White House site about 10 years ago; it was the time of Ken Starr attempting to impeach Clinton and it was fairly compulsive stuff. Here's a hint though, don't go to whitehouse.com as I unthinkingly did - it was a little bit different. Let's put it this day - they had a feature called intern of the day, and she got to sit on the presidential staff. I shut the browser session as quickly as I could - damn the 4 hour lag between me clicking the close button and the browser actually closing ;)

I was learning to use computers at this institute when I overheard a couple of guys at the next PC. PC penetration in India was even worse then, and these people were new to the Internet. One guy asked the other what site he wanted to visit. "Star dot com" came the reply. "But star is a wildcard character, wouldn't it go to every site?" asked the first guy. "The star I'm talking about is S.T.A.double R". If all this sounds childish to you - yup, I was less than half my current age then.

Cheers, Vikram. (Proud to have finally cracked a CCC!)

How disappointing - yet another happy memory consigned to the dustbin.

Reminds me of my sophomore year in HS (10th grade); NT4 didn't have a built in zip application and the school image didn't have one added either. Since we needed it for some reason for our programming assignments our teacher told us to open IE goto unzip.com and download it. At the time (fall 97) that site didn't contain file compression software; instead it was "one of those sites". :-D IIRC it no longer is NSFW, but I'm not about to check from here.

I remember searching for information on the document object model back in the late 90s. Naively, I searched for DOM - let's just say there weren't many hits for the document object model, but there were plenty for the other kind of DOM. Some of those images were pretty damned eye popping.

Funny that, in the late 90's I was searching for "Hot lesbian Fem-Dom action with extra rude DP submission" and all I turned up was some rubbish about HTML and the Document Object Model.

Basically, look at who made the internet: Take a bunch of Nerdy, Bug Eyed, Virginic Computer Geeks Give them a couple of hundred million dollars Tell them you want one box to talk to another box on the other side of the country Then sit back and watch them use the new toy to digitize and swap their porn collections. Wow...1999...I was still that young I hadn't hit double digits, being born late 1990 I had just turned 9 back then. (Yeah guys, I hope you all feel old now ;P )...actually, makes me feel a little old that does... Anyways, I was still in Primary School (Grade School in the States I think it's called?) and was still a couple of years away from High School (Middle School?), I was trying to convince my parents that Y2K was a load of rubbish, I'd read every computer book the school had, my own computer was an old something with DOS and Windows 3.11 on it, booted it into DOS and then launched Windows from a command line...I miss those days, computers were a tad simpler then... Now I'm just thinking of all that has happened since, wow, and there's a lot. Makes me want to write a "We Didn't Start the Fire" type song starting at 2000 and working to now... -Kasterborus
