Faulty computer more likely. Lots of possible reasons: AMD CPUs made a couple of years ago sometimes have problems and overheat, cheapo RAM tends to randomly 00000000000000000break, about-to-die HDDs are veeery slow etc. If you run Notepad, everything can be fine because CPU usage will be low. You start a big fat IDE or a videogame, usage spikes and the problems start manifesting. Seen it quite a couple of times. Then again, VS is known to have performance problems with Intellisense with really big C++ projects.

Me thinks it be the driver - idiot behind the stick (mouse). Our team has been using it for (scratches head and tries to remember when we upgraded) ages with no more complaints than usual. It crashes every now and then, locks up occasionally and sometimes just plan spits the dummy, its an IDE and I have never used one that didn't do this. Get over it.

I would LIKE better but have no realistic expectation of ever getting better, I accept a certain amount of angst as the cost of being a developer, I expect to need to reboot every couple of days and accept that I will screw the system occasionally. You people seem to think a development environment is like a production system, you know where everything is catered for, all bugs removed and options locked down. It's a development environment for gods sake!

Seriously, I accept the occasional bug in just about any system (except cockpit controls). However, the acceptability of the bug is somewhat tied to the price of the software. Microsoft markets VS as the ultimate development environment for the most widely used operating system in the world provided by a premier corporation - and they price it accordingly. Given all this, I expect good quality. Analogy time: If you buy a high end Lexus you expect (and deserve) better quality than if you buy a cheap Ford.

Actually the most irritating IDE was an early version of Delphi, and Superbase was a PITA even though I used it for 7 years.

I guess the cost is transparent to me, paid for by the client and I don't need to hassle for the budget so I don't have the exposure to the cost. I've always had a problem with MS marketing, I have become so inured to it that I no longer even notice it, any organisation that employs evangelists need their head read.

I had lots of trouble with crashing until I uninstalled VisualAssistX

Most *nix types of my acquaintance go for Emacs (or some variant) rather than Vi.
