My Dell laptop running Vista Home Premium has finally blue-screened Vista to death. I cant boot to safe mode so it will be a re-install. Not bad for two years though and about a couple hundred prog/demo installs/uninstalls. Not looking forward to the inevitable re-install of all my apps though. I had thought of making disk copies and bought a 1TB external HDD yesterday just for this purpose but the os bit the dust before I could perform the required magic. :( On the bright side I now have a brand new 1TB External HDD and I also bought a new Yamaha Digital AV Receiver yesterday, so I am consoling myself with very loud Metallica. :-D Oh (I do have a backup from last week too so all is not lost)

I don't speak Idiot - please talk slowly and clearly I don't know what all the fuss is about with America getting it's first black president. Zimbabwe's had one for years and he's sh*t. - Percy Drake , Shrewsbury Driven to the arms of Heineken by the wife

You might put your old drive in a usb enclosure. You might get back anything you made over the last week.

download a linux livecd, you'll be able to boot up your machine from cd and get everything copied off I used to use knoppix: [^] But now most distros have their own flavour of livecd try www.ubuntu.com for instance.

In the past two weeks, I've had 4 Vista machines go down on me, the HD was fine, but the machine wouldn't boot. Has MS released something we're unaware of, or am I unlucky? Neil
