No, we're not. It's a small number of people who ruin it for the majority.

As is often the case and the media then blows it out of proportion.

It's not the teenagers that are a problem. It's the news editors.

Agreed. People need to stop thinking of the news as a portrayal of facts. The news media are corporations that need to make advertising profits. People will stop watching if it gets boring and they will lose money so on a slow news day, they will take an ant hill and blow it up to the size of a mountain to keep people watching. No real-world decisions should ever be based on what was 'in the news'...it's just a puppet theatre.

We never see any good stories about youths in the press, it's always this concentration on scum-bags that makes the headlines. For every shit, there's 1000 (or more!) decent youngsters who don't go beating up grannies, who want a future for themselves and aren't a part of anything that's reported. That's not to say that the scum aren't a real problem, because they are and need to be dealt with a lot more effectively than our namby-pamby-blame-everyone-except-the-culprit society is getting accustomed to, but it is not the norm.

Yes - they're all thugs and louts  Course they're not - the vast, vast majority are well enough behaved and don't get up to owt. But that's boring, so you don't see it on the news. I can see it on the BBC - "A teenage boy completed his homework on time"...yawn!

I don’t think so. Perhaps a minority of stoned people makes the problem.

The UK is so violent that a single assult (without firearms) that ends (probably unintentionally) in death is big news. How are things in the States?

Obviously, not every kid is violent or racist. But there are a few really bad ones. Last year, a gang of four or five kids shot a policeman (he survived) on patrol two houses from the one I was staying at in Wembley, London, and the oldest was aged 12.

Cheers, Vikram. (Cracked not one CCC, but two!)

Oh yeah. They may look small and scared, but trap one accidentally and they will bite. Their venom is especially nasty, resulting in nausea, vomiting, fever, rashes, muscle and joint pain, and in severe cases, hemolysis, thrombocytopenia, and disseminated intravascular coagulation. A necrotizing ulcer may form at the site of the bite, taking months to heal and leaving a nasty scar... if you survive that long. Yep, plenty dangerous, British teenagers.

That was barely even 'in the news'. That was the first I have heard about such a thing. At the moment, with the recent terror bombing news story - that's all we're going to hear about for the next few days... as with subsequent stories in the news... all going to be bombing stuff...

Totally agree! I worked in the newspaper industry for a couple of years after graduation; I wouldn’t believe a single thing a journalist or editor would say after that... As we all know news papers exist to sell advertising...

Um, hello? An elderly man was beaten to the ground in fromt of his granddauhgter, and died of the injuries.

Hi, I m indian and live in u.k. and i can say, majority of brits are well-behaved. its just those 5-10% that cause problems. I remember walking on broad street, birmingham on friday night, when a kid teasing said something (he was drunk), and his friends, group of 6-8 came back and each one said sorry and took him away. No one hurts u, in general. teasing is observed by drunk kids even in other countries....same is here (u.k.)

The UK is so violent that a single assult (without firearms) that ends (probably unintentionally) in death is big news. How are things in the States?

Probably depends on the area - I used to live in Bolton where there seemed to be a murder every 2 days and they hardly ever even made it into local news.
