Seems there's been a few personal 'polls' lately ... (long hair, etc.) ... sooo.... I would be interested to know what the average age of the people hangin' in the lounge is! Me first - just finished uni, @ 20 :-O. Most of our dev team is within a few years of this. NB ;P

Currently 28. Started programming at about age 10 or 11 on an Apple //e. Learned C++ at 19. Did homework assignments on a C=128, dialed into a modem pool at a screaming 2400 baud. Got first programming job at 22. Still used C=128 to dial into modem pool for net.access. I'm 28 also, but 2400 baud? That was fast! I used to dial into fido networks at 75tx/1200rx!

Funny - I spent the afternoon trying to convince the office youngsters that 1200/75 modems were a huge jump on the 300/300 modems that preceded them. They didn't believe that 1200/75 existed. You should have seen their faces when I explained what an acoustic coupler was !!!! Christian I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in. The early bird may get the worm, but it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.

Thankfully, it does. The average age of respondents is currently 33.5, which is 18 months older than me *yay* Christian I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in. The early bird may get the worm, but it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.

33, but when non-programmers ask I somethimes say (0x)21 :) Then they look at me and say, 21?!? you have way too much grey hair for that. :(( - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

I saved lots of pocket money for my 1200/1200 modem - £120! Next came my £300 40Mb harddisk!

32 years old. 10th wedding anniversary in 3 months. 2 kids 4 and 1. Started programming BASIC at 13 in maths class. First programming job a couple of days after my 21st birthday. CICS Cobol II (yuk). BTW, there seems to be a bug on the profile settings page. The requested format for DoB is dd/mm/yyyy, so I enter it, but whenever I reload that page, the format of my date has changed to mm/dd/yyyy. Chris? :confused: Regards, Thomas
