I had Vista Ultimate in my laptop, with Aero glass enabled. Now when i installed Windows 7 Ultimate RTM (from MSDN subscription), i don;t see any Aero glass. I tried to personlise, and selected Window 7 theme ( i think i chose the nature theme), and ensured my laptop was running on AC power - also ensured "High performance enabled for my power management. Nothing seems to get me Aero glass. Why would Aero glass work happily in my Vista Ultimate and not in Windows 7 ultimate. Will there be just one day in our lives when MS will produce an OS that we can reliably move to, and will seemlessly be able to work the same across their latest OSs. I would have expected things to work well at least when moving from Vista to Windows 7. Anyway, any ideas how i can get my Windows 7 to have aero glass enabled. If it is not possible i will have to go back to Vista (re-install it :-()

Microsoft has a downloadable troubleshooter program for Aero. Open "Help & Support", search for "Aero", and then choose the link that sends you to the "troubleshoot" page on their website.

Yes, you are correct. I wish i could move my thread to that forum with a click of a button :-). I have no idea why i have been voted down. Yes, i could have posted it in the vista forum, but i thought this was not a programming question, so i thought it was legitimate to post here in lounge. Anyway... I will post it in vista/windows 7 forum. Thanks.

Not sure about Windows 7, but on Vista, I had this issue because the "Themes" service was not running. (Start-Run-services.msc)

Cheers, Vikram. (Cracked not one CCC, but two!)

In Control Panel > System, let Windows calculate your "Windows Experience Index". If you get a 1,0 in the "Graphics" category; that's usually because Aero isn't supported by your graphics card/driver. By default, Windows 7 might be using generic graphic drivers that don't support Aero, you'll have to get the latest driver from your graphics card manufacturer.

This happens a bit. There are some cards that do not have drivers for Windows 7 where Vista was just fine with them on their built in drivers. Seems they want to force people to upgrade on video and printers as there are built in printer drivers missing from Vista to Windows 7 with no replacements (Laser jet II is one i use to use and not have a printer I cannot use).
