This is for those totally ignorant fools on their moral high-horse about the trapped skunk ... I used a friend's gun to shoot the critter. Pretty humane, right? Wrong! If you people didn't get your ideas about guns and their effects from TV, you'd already know that shooting something doesn't automatically kill it. As I said, I shot the skunk ... at close range, as in less than three feet away. I saw it react to the bullets, and then I slammed the door. Within minutes, the whole house was reeking in skunk stench (which hung around for many hours), so I had more evidence that I'd got him. Later in the day, I went down to dispose of the carcase. It was still alive! With two bullets in it. How humane that was, right? And let's not even get into the suggestion that I drown it.

My god you're a little cunt. Do you think the overall outcome was better than if you had of drowned it?

I'm not sure if this was an accidental repost, or if you (rightly) figured this was worth saying twice.

OK, so it's the skunks fault that you a- can't shoot straight b- didn't hang around to check if you'd done the job

Yeah, that would have taken a lot longer than your failed shooting attempt. When I have to kill an animal, I cut it's head clean off. That tends to work pretty quick. If it's a bigger animal, I pay someone to give it an injection, so it goes to sleep.

Fool, the question was not whether the animal dies, but how much suffering it endures. I cannot countenance drowning an animal.

Yes and I put it to you (but not in the same way as I did your mum) that the animal would have suffered less if it had been drowned than shot and left for several hours to suffer. I really really hope you can one day know the pain and distress you caused that innocent animal because you are too much of a fucking soft cock to put up with an odor.

You know, if someone I remotely respected said that about me, it may hurt my feelings a little. However, in this case, I found it amusing and ironic.

So, not bothering to try and lining yourself up for a potential animal cruelty charge is better than attempting to call animal control?

The funny thing is he could have called animal control the entire time and had them lay the trap, etc. I have a lot of rabbits around me house, but that doesn't mean I'm going to shoot them. At some point I'll just get a live trap and try and catch them. If I catch something else I can always call the professionals.

You guys are operating under the misconception that this was something other than excuse to indulge the bastard's sadistic urges. Removing the animal was secondary. Taking advantage of an opportunity to torture it was clearly the primary motivation.

That's sad. I dislike suffering, and no animal of any type should be put through it. But, you still tried, and you deserve some credit for that. On the other hand, a Google search suggests that to keep skunks away, mothballs might be useful. If the skunk has to die, at least let it be for a purpose - to prevent other skunks from getting caught in a similar trap and dying in the same way.

TRIED WHAT!?!?! He traps the animal, starves it for days, shoots it to wound it and leaves it suffering for hours. All he had to do was make a phone call, as has been observed repeatedly above. TRIED WHAT!?!? Don't give the little son of a bitch the psychological cover he's looking for. He's a sadistic sick little _shithead and should be treated as such.

I don't deliberately do psychological cover. I simply observed that he tried to kill the skunk in a (relatively) humane manner, and although he failed, he went to the effort of doing so. I've said multiple times that I dislike the idea of killing, but in this case he tried to put it out of its' misery. And incidentally, caps lock isn't very pleasing on the eyes. Furthermore, I don't care if you disagree with me - I learn from every reply - but if you can't make your point without swearing, then you aren't making it properly. I've had a bad enough week as it is, don't make it any worse.
