Nice animated tag cloud
-
I was just looking at an article (off-site) relating to Test Management software when I noticed the tag cloud on the right. Cool animation. Just mouse over it. http://www.jayphilips.com/2009/09/10/15-open-source-test-management-tools/[^] (I'm sure this is common and I should just "get out more" but...)

Quite nice. Obviously, and in the matter of professional interest, I hovered over it and right clicked (so I can take a look the script that was doing the animation) only to discover it was flash! -50 man points :suss:

I hate tag clouds. I think they're the biggest waste of screen space and the least intuitive UI element I've seen in the last decade.

nice, but made me dizzy.
Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

..because you're a programmer, concerned with usability. Some people care more about visualization than usability. It needs to look good in order to sell, how it works isn't that relevant.

That is absolutely untrue, in that tag clouds are there for web developers to play with, and add nothing at all to the look & feel or usability of a web page. It's just one of the latest "buzz-gimmicks", that everyone has to have on their site (according to idiots who can't think up anything creative or original to add to a page). It's only saving grace (and why it is used so often) is that it can distract the visitor from seeing how badly designed and written a page is. Tag clouds are not functional or usable, and they look a bloody mess.

Looks cool, acts uncool. Try and click the tag "error database", and you'll see what I mean.

I couldn't find it. I was able, with some balancing, to click on every tag I could at some stage read. I found it fairly usable, enough for casual but not frequent use.

It was a sarcastic remark. A polished car sells better than a car that actually drives. Not my fault btw :)
In my experience, the fact that the car is polished, and works, says at least something about the seller. Polished cars are to be approached with caution, but once initial trust is established, one will often find the rest of the car well maintained.

Arial is actually bearable, given that the alternative for most people is Times New Roman X| I used to be a Verdana/Tahoma person myself, but since Office 2007, it's been Calibri all the way.

So you embed fonts in everything, for people who don't use Vista/MSO 2007? That's not very friendly.

Georgia is my choice for prose, but I still look around for headings.
I have been trying for weeks to get this little site indexed. If you wonder what it is, or would like some informal accommodation for the 2010 World Cup, please click on this link for Rhino Cottages.
