Yeah, a lot of people talk like that. I feel bad for them.

I think it's down to the individual. I've never got married, never really wanted to but at the same time I have friends who have married and that's the right thing for them. We all make our choices and hopefully that's the right choice.

25 is too young ? Wow. That really sucks, I am sorry. I've had two girlfriends, and married both . The first asked me, the second told me early on she intended to say yes, so I've never had to deal with asking and not knowing what the answer would be.

Unless you're a polygamist, that's not a paragon of marital success - not bad going though. :)

You got lucky: dump her and move on: sow some wild oats, enjoy your life: don't get married until you're at least 30, have built a career, have some money behind you and have done all the travelling and womanising you can. Marriage is a wonderful institution... but who wants to live in an institution?

I total aggree, there's so much to see and do in your 20s, don't waste and have a total blast. Only after you experienced life you can settle down get married and have a family - you'll appriciate it a whole lot more.

Your first point is fantastic (and I'm surprised nobody else brought it up) but how would getting drunk or stoned help at all?

Cheers, Vikram. (Cracked not one CCC, but two!)

It helps your feelings in the short term. I don't think anyone here (with even half a brain) would expect more, but it is a good immediate solace.

ROTFL !!! This is why I hate buses. Two experiences spring to mind, one was some welfare bums in Donna's family seeing me and Hannah on the bus, ( Han was 4 or 5 ) and coming over to tell us in loud voices how they were no longer a couple, but they live together for convenience and cheapness, and so they both live with their daughter. Everyone on the bus was cringing and staring. The second was a woman complaining about her job so much, and how it was destroying her life, that her friend asked why she didn't look for somthing else. She was with the public service, and was keeping her job for the pension it paid. So she is well paid when she retires and bitches all day about how much she hated her job. 19 is a fair way from 25, but I don't think it's bogan to get married then ( or at all, really ). That's pretty funny tho, that she'll decide on a specific proposal, based on a perception of what people may think. Must be a serious relationship. I can't imagine asking a girl to marry me and being told she was going to think it over. That would suck more than no, I reckon ( because it would surely be 'no', it would at least be a very tentative 'yes' )

Maybe she is wiser than you think... perhaps she recognizes the superficiality of her decision to not marry based on what other people think, so she is waiting until she is older and mature enough to accept ;P

It's how a good portion of the "western world" would tend to deal with their problems, so long as it doesn't become a habit, there's no problem. Like Brady said, it's a great short term release, just don't come to rely on it. I'd shoot for drunk in this kind of situation, go out and dance the fandango!

I wouldn't, each has their merrits, personally I chose to mix the 2. I enjoyed myself as a singleton all the way up right through til my last term of uni, and definitely enjoyed myself! The gf who I met then is the one I'm with now, and we've both clearly stated neither of us are remotely interested in kids for at least another 10 years (we're both 23), we want to get money behind us, sample life's pleasures, and enjoy our time with each other.

Good luck to you, brother Eliott; we've all been (or will be) on the wrong side of the street emotionally in this dance of life. Grieving is a natural human process, and letting it "flow through us," experiencing it fully, leads to change (although the "change" may be "inner" rather than "outer"). best, Bill

"Many : not conversant with mathematical studies, imagine that because it [the Analytical Engine] is to give results in numerical notation, its processes must consequently be arithmetical, numerical, rather than algebraical and analytical. This is an error. The engine can arrange and combine numerical quantities as if they were letters or any other general symbols; and it fact it might bring out its results in algebraical notation, were provisions made accordingly." There's a lot to be said for the fact that alcohol doesn't make your problems go away, you just have to deal with them with a banging headache in the morning.

Same thing happened to me a few months ago - ending a 6-year relationship, and we'd been living together for 4 of those. Totally knocked the shit out of me. It sucks like a very sucky thing. Really really hurt for a couple of months but it's getting ok-ish for me now. Best things you can do are remember to move on and do loads of things for yourself, eremember how good things can be when you're on your own, and obviously, get some action at somme point with someone else, but not for relationshippy stuff, just fun. That is important.

Yeah, it would have worked better if she said yes. Does this mean that she's broken up with you, or just that you're going out, but not engaged ?

I have a gun if you want to shoot yourself.
