IE8 driving me batty with popups - how to turn off the advertising?
-
After upgrading to IE8, a very annoying thing started happening in the browser. Apparently, something has a new feature which highlights "links" in green (I still have the blue ones). But the green ones cause an immediate advertising popup. Turning on max popup blocker does not turn them off. Right mouse clicking shows that perhaps its an Adobe flash thing. Can anyone give me a clue how to disable this behavior? cg

Install FireFox!
Okay, so I opened the page in firefox, and the "hot" items are still in green and they popup when the cursor crosses over them. Same thing happens in Opera.

Update: These links appear to be a growing trend of embedded advertising for web pages - something related to a company called intellitxt. Adblock for firefox is supposed to knock it out. You can also define appropriate entries in your hosts file to redirect the links (so they don't popup). Still working on it....

I know I've seen a Greasemonkey script for getting rid of Intellitxt links. There's also snap.com which shows a similar type of popup over links.
