That's a tough question to explain to someone who hasn't done it. Most people I know who've done a tandem or a static line jump would understand the motivation to go back and do it again. I went for an hour's flight in a PA-28-161 Warrior[^] yesterday and it was awesome :) I got my pilot's license when I was 19, but haven't flown for 10 years - I really don't know why :confused: I love it :-D Any other ideas for things to do that don't involve staring at a screen? Nick

I walk, run, cycle, play sports, tinker with cars and also read quite a bit. I stopped programming for fun at exactly the same time as I started doing it for a job.

I went for an hour's flight in a PA-28-161 Warrior[^] yesterday and it was awesome :) I got my pilot's license when I was 19, but haven't flown for 10 years - I really don't know why :confused: I love it :-D Any other ideas for things to do that don't involve staring at a screen? Nick

For relaxing, there's nothing I enjoy more than getting out my chain saw and cutting up a tree. Then I take an axe and split the wood. A few hours of that is a pretty good exercise regimen. :)

That sums up my experience of programming pretty well. When I've had time out of work i've found enjoyment in coding again. I guess unless your style of home coding involves writing tedious mountains of documentation or reimplementing a really dull feature for the twentieth time because the management numpty who commissioned it didn't actually understand what he wanted, you're going to find programming for a living to be a disappointment.

Um.. You guys have time for that (fun)? Just kidding. For the most part the time spent with my SO and going on bike rides every weekend with her on the local bike trail.

Apart from coding, which I do consider fun sometimes. But only if have the prerogative to give up before it's finished. I've never actually finished a personal programming project. I'm currently building an RC plane It's a model of a piper cub, 1.8m wingspan, 0.7cc 4 stroke petrol engine. I've got most of the body done, but I'm still lacking a back wheel. The wings are done but unattached. I still need to mount the engine and finish off the electrics. Occasional rock climbing.
