When exactly did a "sun roof" become a "moon roof"? Honestly, what's the point of that kind of name change? "Sun roof" just rolls off the tongue so nicely...

Because everyone knows letting the sun in during the summer will turn your car into an oven. The moon isn't hot and doesn't have that problem.

The only American car I was impressed with was a Pontiac Grand Prix. Big Engine, but not much top speed, but it did have all the toys. I couldn't afford to run it here in UK where petrol is about $8/gallon.

I currently own a Grand Prix GT and I love it. Its a 2005 with only 35,000 miles on it and all the toys :-D . I traded off a Toyota with 170,000 miles and thought I wouldn't find another car that I would like as much as the that one, but the Grand Prix has changed that.

It's called a moon roof, because that's what you do out of that roof. You moon people.

Those are Canadian and Mexican cars. Toyota makes American cars, though.

The Malibu is made in Kansas City. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Malibu#Seventh_generation_2008-present The Fusion is made in Mexico so I guess that it is not a US car. However, it was designed in America, not Japan.

Ford said my Pinto was safe and stylish -- didn't make it true. I'll quote Wikipedia, the official source of things rooflike: "Sunroofs, by historical definition are opaque and slide open to allow sunshine and fresh air into the passenger compartment". There is no need to look at the article further as it doesn't support my claim and only serves to confuse. :P

Ah, but my SUNROOF was clear with an opaque cover... So you could manually slide back the cover to let the sun in, and then optionally tilt or slide the sunroof with a button press.

                      Sunroof vs moonroof[^]

We found further clarification -- "sunroof" is the term originally used to describe a metal panel that would only allow light or air in when opened. A "moonroof," on the other hand, is a glass panel that can allow light in even when it is closed (provided, of course, you slide back that nifty fabric-covered panel to expose the glass). True sunroofs, those made just of metal, appear to have gone the way of 8-tracks in automobiles, and these days, most "sunroofs" are really "moonroofs" -- panels of tempered glass, usually tinted, that tilt up to allow a flow of air, or slide back into the roof entirely, giving the car occupants a brief but tantalizing glimpse of life in a convertible.

Of all the American cars I drove, I always loved Fords best. I couldn't tell you why as a kid, maybe because of my mom's Taurus (before that she had a Chevy Caprice, the old box shaped ones) , maybe because of my dad's Mustang or maybe because of the sound of the name. To this day, I like Fords the most (of all American cars) and then its a particular car here or there, but now I'm aware of such measly details like MPG, spare parts availability (an important factor in the Middle East) and potential re-sale value.

How a car feels when it drives is a very simple set angle settings on the suspension. When the front wheels of a car turn left or right, they also tilt a small amount into the turn. Changing that tiny angle along with the amount of power steering assist makes for the vast majority of how a car feels when you drive it. It makes Fords always feel like Fords when you drive them, Chevy's feel like Chevy's etc. The most distinctive to me personally is the BWM.
