Ok, first I want to thank everyone for their feedback on my earlier post. It was sort of generic but I needed to know what real people think. You know the above average intelligences of the world. Now, the story was true and here is what I actually said: "The whole participation thing makes no sense to me any way. Am I to assume that 2 post on wed, 2 on thur and 2 on fri count but 2 on tues, 1 on wed, 2 on thur and 1 on fri does not? How ridiculous." No yelling, special characters or anything. What I got back was an email that yelled at me, telling me how inappropriate the content was. Anyway, thanks again all.
OMG what's the BFD?

So this is some kind of 'participate on the forum' grade? With a minimum of 2 posts a day for it to count or something? If you left off the last bit I'd probably be entirely on your side, saying it doesn't make sense to you and rattling off an example is a decent way of bringing up a concern, but the last bit would set a lot of people on edge. Which I'd have to guess is exactly what happened, unless you've gotten a professor who simply despises being questioned.

I agree with the above reply. It's probably the last two words of your message that are the cause of your issue. Sometimes it doesn't matter how ridiculous it is because it might be how the school requires participation and it's out of the instructors hands. Now, being yelled at in return might not exactly be a graduated response but if you leave off the last two words I expect you would get a polite reply.

the exact reply "that yelled at me, telling me how inappropriate the content was"... and give us the context...seriously, I would guess that these other people who are speculating about the context is correct...but making a judgement of character without knowing all the facts is rediculous :)

It depends what the real objective of it all is, and we're not in a position to know that. If, for example, I need to rely on 3rd-line support (i.e. real engineers who also have to do their own work) to post updates to prio 1 or prio 2 problems within a specified time and at regular times, then I need to trust that they have commented on two problems on Monday, two on Tuesday, etc, for as long as there are two such problems. If they do not, it costs me in both money and reputation. So what is ridiculous here is not that you have to respond to whatever a certain number of times per day; what is ridiculous is that, rather than ask why, or what you were expected to learn from it, you immediately assumed that it is ridiculous.

Human intelligence is a constant. It's only the population that changes.

When I was in college I learned two things: 1) Talk to your professors in person. You get a better grade if they know you. Discrete Math is hard otherwise.
Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting. A man said to the universe: "Sir I exist!" "However," replied the universe, "The fact has not created in me A sense of obligation." --Stephen Crane

Did you bother to ask why, or for more clarification? What's the probability that the recipient responded to the wrong e-mail?
