I have a friend who thought I might know a thing or 2 about building electronics.....which I don't. Could anyone give me some guidance which I shall pass on. Thanks David Friends question: I'm doing a bit of charity work with a local college based on Dragon's Den, we are getting 6 groups of kids to come up with one business idea per group and pitch to a group of business men at the Tricycle theatre for £1,000 to start the venture. My group has come up with a gaming keyboard. Loads on the market but this one is designed to be cheap and basic; under a tenner if possible! So I'm trying to figure out how much it would cost to make a mini keyboard with half a dozen keys only!

I would personally never have to use a keyboard for gaming. I suck at basic keyboard operations, and if I have to use AWSD or whatever to move I sick hugely. I used to swear by the precision movements I used to clear Doom I & II, and Quake I & II, of my right hand tapping the arrow keys, but why not let people use them instead of the bloody lefty conspiracy that is AWSD? Not what you wanted to hear, but maybe the could build in a swap out of the evil combo to the arrow key saviours. :) On very old keyboards you could simply bridge the two sets through an eight way switch by soldering links. Ah, the days!

Start with a regular keyboard and remove what you don't need? :-D

A lot more than a standard PC keyboard, if you aren't making tens of thousands of them. The fixed costs of tooling for manufacture would be much larger than £1000.
