The monster is rearing it's ugly head - and I need help in image manipulation

Hi all, just dropping by to tell you all that my decreasing hearing and vision have officially been attributed to the tumor. It has probably increased it's size and damaged parts of my brain. I have trouble telling letters apart, hearing, and I am seeing double images. Speaking of double images: On my blog lebfuerdentag.blogspot.com, I have posted images of how I see. However, I have some trouble reaching the desired results: The two images are of the same intensity, but I can't find the setting in the GIMP to achieve that look. Can anyone help? I'd be happy to describe what I see in more detail. Otherweise, keep those thumbs pressed for me... Cheers from Cologne Sebastian

Sebastian, I don't know what I can tell you. But, what I do know is that I'm not so courageous as you. I cannot even imagine. My wishes are with you to win this horrible fight. Don't give up and please keep us posted. I'll wait for that beautiful day when you would come here and tell us that it's all cured. :rose:

Hang in there Sebastian. I'm not sure what you want to achieve? Are you simply wanting to layer one over the other, offset slightly, to have a kind of motion blur?

A little more explanation for the image part: Each eye, left and right, has a unique field of vision. The picture under http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Netzhautlk-polarp.jpg&filetimestamp=20070823190738 illustrates the field of view for a left eye. The yellow line shows the basic field of view, which partially overlaps for the combination. There are more pictures in the German Wikipedia, but I cannot find the image being used in the English version. What I am trying to do: I want to show people what the overlapping area looks like for me. Both images should have the same intensity in the resulting image, with the central overlapping area showing both images like they were evenly important. This is hard, because I cannot just blend them over. In addition, I want to show what the combined image with one eye under foil looks like. The right image is, basically, brighter and less visible, because the image makes less sense for my brain. The left-side image is sharp, but partially overlapped by the milky right-hand image. Especially the center is still a place where both images are present, but the milky foil makes it easier to concentrate on the left side image without having to shut an eye. However, the images I posted were the best I could do. I will try and answer any additional questions. Thanks a lot for everyone trying to help!

Sorry, but I definitely don't know how to do this. It's almost like you'd want a virtual camera that looks at the same source image, duplicates it, then recombines them slightly offset from some mirror axis. I don't know how you'd do this in GIMP without blending. I think 3D programs can do something like this with stereoscopic rendering ( I think that's the term) but you'd need to create a scene first, then find a package that supports that (not all of them do, other than the higher end packages like Houdini or Max).

Reading the title of your message caused a number of images to flash through my head, none of which are suitable for discussion on overly moderated forums, like The Lounge.
