Yes, but if you stop the bar, you stop the gadgets also, correct?

Why would I want to take all my gadgets to the bar?

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

In Vista, I dropped the gadget bar right at the start. In W7, with being able to place them anywhere without the bar, I actually find myself using them, at least a analog clock, weather and an alarm clock. Works pretty good. Time to explore more into making my own gadgets :)

I used to use my Gadget bar in Vista ... until I found out it was the reason for my slow load times.

I think I've transcended into full-blown geek. I'm counting down the days until Weven is released. Ten for now.

Not to mention crashes. That gadget bar doesn't like being deprived of network connectivity. I saw it happen the first time while a microsoft evangelist was touting Vista and lost his wifi. And it didn't get fixed by launch. Tends to completely lockup the OS.

I've already got RTM running on my main personal PC. At work the Vista migration effort's turned into a Weven migration effort but I don't know anyone involved in it so no idea on the ETA.

                Maybe bring 'gadgets' home rather?

As long as "Gadget" is the name of an elegant lady...

Ah-ha! I never tried totally killing it, just "Closing" it which I guess just sends it to the system tray and keeps running. I surrender!

They seem to run pretty smooth in W7. Actually usable now!

My migration is going to be quite simple. I've got file sharing enabled, so I just plan to move all the data over to the laptop, install Weven and copy it back. If I get a second copy for the laptop (stupid rule, having one product key per computer) then I'll just do the same process in reverse. Neatly enough, it'll also sync the two computer's copies of my data, and purge the last of the bloat Acer shipped my computer with.
