If it's general procrastination - pushing around different tasks, not really starting with one - it's simple. - Kill all distractions. No e-mail, no CodeProject, no IM'ing the hot secretary. - Make an "order of execution" list for the pending tasks. - Start with the first one. If you genuinely loathe the things you are asked to do, there is a support group that helps you cope with it. It's called "Team" and meets at the bar.

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

Write a CP article... Your article will win the Article of the Year award! You will be a hero to other CPians! You will be flooded with congratulations from friends and relatives! Women will post invitations on your Facebook page! Mustafa will be in awe, and stop talking about worms for a whole day! Christian will have a day without suckage! John will forget about Mayans! Marc will start reading ads! You will win the Nobel IT Prize! That should get your daydreaming started. :)

      Best wishes, Hans

For me its simple..I take a break and go and try to do something creative like -painting(I suck at it), -writing short stories(Actually I am OK in this), -Cooking (I can really cook ). And when I show my "creation" to my wife and kid, their comments drive me back to work, where I am really good at what I do :-D

Code Massage. Fix all your white-space and indents, check the validity of your HTML, etc. Pretty soon you start thinking about why you have so much repetitive code1, and your brain gears up to actually being interested in at least one thing. Repeat until your are at risk of a rewrite, then throttle back. :) 1 With every revision, even the previously most singular code becomes repetitive. You know that eventually you can conquer the world with just one line.

Ah, but what about the Hutt DarkSabre Package? This is like VisualDeathStar, smaller cheaper and less features, but has many proponents.

Obviously the weapon choice is down to the caller. For the more adventurous evil villain, the Conquer method has an overload that takes an array of weapons. [Although in the new 1.2 beta due out next week you can pass a generic IEnumerable<IWeaponOfMassDestruction>]

Why would you dispose of the DeathRay after the world has been conquered? The typical mistake of a novice conqueror - you have to have something to keep the masses down once you conquered them... :-D Didn't you learn anything from that Family Guy episode where they destroyed all their guns and then were attacked by mutated Stewie's offspring?

Find a new job if the current one is too bad / consistently makes you feel like this.

I'm very tempted but not sure if the market has picked up yet in the UK plus I get very good perks here, 35 days leave some years and go home early on a Friday

lack of motivation leads to lack of doing work. Lack of doing work leads to unemployment. Lack of jobs on the market while unemployed leads to deep $@#(*&$.
